I successfully used my Advance Parole on 4/12/16. I traveled to the Philippines with my fiance (USC) to meet my birth family (I'm adopted) on 4/1 and returned 4/12 using straight flights both ways from SFO to MNL. Leaving SFO was a breeze, no documentation was required except my passport. Coming back was a little more difficult since I didn't have a visa or green card. MNL airport employees were a bit confused with the Advance Parole document, and I had to explain how the document worked on at least 4 different occasions:

- Upon MNL ticketing counter when checking in my luggage (the guy helping me had to take my doc to his supervisor for clearance; about 10 mins later he returned. He made a copy of my AP doc and then gave us our boarding passes after I paid the travel tax fee (~1600 pesos)
- Upon MNL immigration counter (the lady asked for my green card at least 2 times before I told her I do not have one. I showed her my Employment Auth card and after carefully analyzing my AP doc, she finally stamped my passport)
- Upon the first checkpoint (I briefly showed my AP doc to the agent, but he was mainly concerned with checking for the immigration stamp I received prior to the checkpoint)
- Upon final checkpoint (I had to explain my situation again with AP and then they marked my boarding pass for approval)

Once I reached SFO, I asked one of the employees if it was okay if my USC fiance could join me in the visitor line. She said it was fine and actually encouraged it since the visitors line was much shorter than the USC/Perm Resident line lol. The total time it took for me to go through the process was an astounding 38 minutes. The first CBP officer looked intimidating but turned out to the be delightfully funny. He joked with me and my fiance and said he had the authority to marry us right then and there on the spot. We respectfully declined and told him we already had our wedding date set for September. He seemingly was aware of the AP document as didn't ask any questions about why I departed the US. He simply asked me to scan my fingerprints and took my picture. Afterward, he redirected us to the Secondary checkpoint for final processing. We walked into the room everyone talks about, which resembled a DMV type layout. There was about 3 ppl sitting down and I walked straight to the counter. I gave the CBP officer my AP doc and she asked for my Drivers license. She asked who the guy was with me and I told her my fiance. He showed her his passport and she didn't ask anything more. She then asked me how long I was out of the country and if it was for vacation. I replied I was gone for 10 days and that it was to visit my mother who is sick (see my previous posts for an explanation of her illness). Finally, she asked me to take a seat. Ten minutes later she asked me if I was married, single or divorced. I told her I was single. A few minutes after that, she called my name and gave me back my passport with a parole stamp. She kept one of my AP docs and stamped it. The other one I still have. No other questions. I was free to go!

I actually think the turnaround time would have been even shorter than 38 minutes, but they had a glitch in their system upon the first checkpoint which caused delays with fingerprinting and photos. Once that was up and running, literally we were in and out within 15-20 mins.

Overall, the process was smooth. It could have been the time of day we came in (8 pm on a Tuesday) or the fact I had my USC fiance with me. It seems international airports, especially SFO, are familiar with these AP docs and are processing them much quicker. I am very happy I did it and have no regrets. I encourage anyone with DACA who has a reason to travel to apply for AP.

Once I'm married, I will be applying for AOS since I have been paroled into the US. I'll update the forum with my experience accordingly.
Congrats, I also came in through SFO. However, they kept both of my AP papers. I'm going to get married this year and soon after apply for a green card. Good luck with everything.

Hi
I am currently in the process of applying for advance parole and I'm in need of extra information to calm my nerves.
I've been in the United States since the age of 5, I've had DACA now for the past 4 years.
I want to apply for the advance parole to see my sick grandfather.
My question is my DACA card (employment authorization card) says "NOT VALID FOR RE-ENTRY" would I have to apply for a new DACA card in order to have no problems upon re entering the US?

Thank you!!

Nothing guarantees you re-entry. A lot of the AP people have gotten back in mainly because our records are clean. If you had trouble with USCIS in the past I would not recommend traveling with AP. If your clean, I dont see why they would not allow you to come back in. In regards to your other question, why would you apply for a new EAD? Is it expiring soon? Do not travel if your EAD is going to expire while you out of the country.

Hi, I'm planning to apply for the advance parole to see my sick grandmother. Can somebody please tell me if I have to translate all her medical records for immigration. I went to see a lawyer and she said she does not translate medical records. Should I go to a certified place to get them translate, just wondering what to do. thank you

Has anyone traveled by car back from Mexico through the San Ysidro border? And if so how did it go? It seems like international airports know more about traveling with AP.
