My car was broken into and stolen from yesterday. They stole my wallet which had my EAD card in it. I was thinking that since this is the United States of America that there would be some level of understanding for someone who was a victim of theft but apparently not. I have to file a new I765 form on top of paying $465 for something I already qualified for, TWICE. I have a police report, I have everything saying that I was indeed stolen from and yet there is absolutely no understanding from USCIS. What a time to be alive. How is this fair? How is this just??

How was your car stolen? Leave keys in? Unlocked? Engine running? Master key? Smashed window?

Where was the location? Street?

Never leave your EAD card and SSN in the wallet. You're aware that they can steal your whole identity just by obtaining your wallet.

My car itself wasn't stolen, it was broken into at my job. My bag was a Nike bag, which I guess the person wanted enough to break into my car and take it. I don't think the person realized they took my wallet along with my bag bc it's hidden inside my bag but they would've likely taken that too if it was in my car compartments.
I'm extremely cautious with my car and make sure I lock it multiple times. I have no idea how they got into my car but they did. No smash windows, no nothing, they just got in and took my stuff, trashed my glove compartment and left. They left a soda can in my car which the cop took as evidence and I figured out what door they came in through and saw that they touched something else as well.

Yeah, lesson learned. Only my EAD card was in my wallet, not my SSN. I've never lost anything but I slipped up. I just find it appalling that I have to pay $465 again. Then again, expecting any humane nature from the USCIS is foolish of me.

Do you have homeowners/renters insurance by any chance? Coverage from this is not essentially limited to things in your home. Just a thought. Next time please don't carry your EAD with you and don't leave anything visible in the car.

No, I don't & yeah, it was a mistake on my end expecting decency from people. Lesson learned! Thanks for the idea though.

I'm honestly not going to get it replaced, I have photo documents of it & all the other paper documents as well. I won't be changing jobs anytime soon so I'm fine.

Oh I have & the told me that I need to file a new Form I765 & I will have to pay $465 again. I talked to a supervisor as well, same thing. They basically referred me to the Waiver thing they have for special cases, the I92 form but they were unwilling to make any accommodation for me.
So since I have photographs of my EAD & still have my letters & such with me, I will not be paying $465 for something I already have. Call me crazy but I think that's absolutely ridiculous that they have no understanding of my situation. It doesn't even have to be free, I'll pay for the card production fees - sure. But $465 for a replacement? I'll pass!

& I honestly take it as an insult that they tried to play me off when they said "We offer a waiver for situations, please look at the I92 form & call us back." Like, no. I know close to everything about this bullcrap process that they take their sweet time doing & I know that I don't qualify for your "waiver" that literally 0.1% of humanity's population can actually get.
