its true though
In your opinion because to me and most christians evolution is B.S.
then you are simply basing your ideas on something that cannot be proved nor tested,
where as evolutions has been tested retested tested again. and is a FACT

i dont care if you remain ignorant for the rest of your live and believe whatever you believe. but to actually compare a scientific theory to something i can experience while i get high shrooms. is just ludicrous
Since when did evolution become a fact??? You are unbelievable , you seem to have this elitist arrogance about you but o well believe what you want to believe i'll believe what i know is true. One day when we all die we will find out who was right and who was wrong. I feeel sorry for u.
hahaha evolution is a theory that can be observed tested data can be goatherd for it. and done over and over and over and over. with the same results. with all the research that can be done with this one comes with the conclusion that we evolved from single cell organism.. kinda like the theory of gravity. you cant feel it infront of you or see it but how do we know its there because when you drop a ball it will fall to the ground.... over and over and over and over ect. thus coming to the conclusion that it exist.

you just cant do that to religion... all you guys have is faith.... faith is an unproven idea that you believe is true.
so dont feel sorry for me wanting to actually be knowledgeable about this world and everything around it. instead of believing in fairy tales. and when i die ill be sure to uuhmm uhmm. die. because thats whats going to happen. nothing. just death. nothing more nothing less... so instead of living my life to die. im going to live my life and try to improve this world while im in it. because there is nothing more afterwards. and one way to improve the world is by eradicating religions.

lol not in a violent way though. but through making people understand what the difference between fairy tales and science is and having them educated.

We had this EXACT SAME discussion in my Religion class today [and yes, it is a college class...not some biased, denominational individual study course]. It's funny how people change the word "theory" around to better suit their agenda. A theory is as follows: a proposed explanation whose status is still conjectural, in contrast to well-established propositions that are regarded as reporting matters of actual fact. Evolution is NOT a fact yet every time someone tries to say "Well, I believe in some form of creationism" they are immediately called an idiot. Just because you don't believe in creationism doesn't mean you have to put down people that do. There is NO PROOF either way. I cannot prove that there is a God in heaven [even though that is what I believe] BUT at the same time, no one has ever given me an explanation of how the world came about.

Just because something is supposed to be "scientific" does not mean it is infallible. You shouldn't put down others religions and beliefs just because you think otherwise. That is NOT what this thread was created for.

And yes crass, I can have it both ways. It's called theistic evolutionary THEORY [once again with the word THEORY] and just because YOU don't subscribe to it, doesn't mean it is wrong. Open your mind a little and don't try to make other people out to be ignorant just because they have different perspectives.

I would really hate to lock this thread just because I thought it would make for good conversation. If we're going to make this into a Scopes trial-esque battle then I'll just delete some posts and move on. Let's be civilized and not insulting.

[btw: any degrading of ANYONE'S beliefs [i.e. calling Biblical stories "fairy tales"] will no longer be tolerated. Respect others.

Scientific understanding requires both facts and theories that can explain those facts in a coherent manner. Evolution, in this context, is both a fact and a theory. It is an incontrovertible fact that organisms have changed, or evolved, during the history of life on Earth. And biologists have identified and investigated mechanisms that can explain the major patterns of change.

Evolutionary biology is a strong and vigorous field of science. A theoretical framework that encompasses several basic mechanisms is consistent with the patterns seen in nature; and there is abundant evidence demonstrating the action of these mechanisms as well as their contributions to nature. Hence, evolution is both a theory and a set of established facts that the theory explains.

Like every other science, there is scientific debate about some aspects of evolution, but none of these debates appear likely to shake the foundations of this field. There exists no other scientific explanation that can account for all the patterns in nature, only non-scientific explanations that require a miraculous force, like a creator. Such super-natural explanations lie outside of science, which can neither prove nor disprove miracles. Science provides us with a compelling account and explanation of the changing life on Earth. It should also remind us of our good fortune to have come into being and our great responsibility to ensure the continuity of life.
