Best place to migrate to?

I know many of us here are remaining hopeful that DACA will not end soon or that we will have trusted politicians protect us somehow.

But well, we have Trump now and maybe it's best to start thinking about Plan B since Plan A (Staying here) might not be possible in the future.

I acknowledge that many of us here are not in a position to just go up and leave. We have family, friends, jobs, and other ties to this place.

However, these past few days I have been really reflecting on why I am crying and forcing myself to assimilate in a country that does not want me. DACA had given me a false sense of belonging, but that illusion has been shattered by the 48 million Americans who voted for that orange buffoon.

So, yeah, I am considering getting out of here. I am in my mid-twenties with a graduate degree and no kids and some money saved up. Do I really want to do this? Hell no. But I need to start planning or else I will go crazy from waiting for the other shoe to drop on January.

Now the question is.... where to?

Most Americans joke about going to Canada. But in all honesty, it is my number 1 choice right now since I have aunts and uncles there, though we are not the closest. I also feel that the culture is a little bit more similar to the US and it is close enough that if things work out, I can cross the border (legally) back to the US and visit my friends again. Also, their new PM is a lot more progressive minded that our upcoming President. However, I speak zero french and I heard unemployment there is at 8% which is baaaad. I also heard that migrating there is difficult, what with their points system.

Second option is going back home to the Philippines, but a part of me don't really have strong ties to the country of my birth. I speak the language, so that's not an issue, and I am open to learning more about the culture since I grew up with Filipino parents anyway. My issue is the huge poverty rate and the very drastic change of lifestyle and income. My family is from the rural village, not exactly the same perks as living in Silicon Valley. Heck, internet is still an issue there.

Does anyone have other countries in mind? What are our chances of getting approved to move there?

Do you or anyone you know have experience of successfully moving to another country?

I am tired of hiding and living in the fringes of American society. Maybe this is a sign that it is time to let go and seek freedom somewhere else.

One thing is for sure: whichever country welcomes me with open arms and gives me the legal status that I have craved for all my life will receive my eternal gratitude and service. I will love that country so much I am willing to give it my all... my skills, my talent, my passion, my loyalty. I was willing to do the same to USA, but why force myself on a place that does not want me.

I called today an immigration attorney in Toronto. He said maybe we could try as refugee.. but he said not to panic to wait and see.

One problem is, since you overstayed in US for more then 1 year, you'll trigger a 10 year ban from entering the US if you choose to leave the country.
So yeah, simply moving to Canada is a challenge of it's own, but you'll also have to deal with the fact that you won't be able to come back to US for a very long time.

Calm down. If you followed the election Trump said he will legalize the good ones.

There is hope. No reason to flip out and make it seem the end of the world.

Use your intelligence and think about how the Republicans will use this opportunity to get the latino vote. They cannot deport all of us.

This is a more reasonably argument. I can see them not targeting us. It will be okay I believe. Daca will be axed but I would not leave yet until there are more details.

My suggested priority list:
1. Wait and see if Canada would open a special case for dreamers.
2. Stay in the shadow if your travel options are limited.
3. Europe/Australia.
4. Your home (other) country.

It won't be an easy ride, but waiting a bit to hear DACA's fate is a good idea until after Trump's first 100 days. After than if there's no news, start planning hardcore since he'll cancel DACA at the last minute 2 years from now and you won't have time to react or fight back.
