I been lurking for a little, and I just saw a post on reddit that gives me some hope

Quote:
Like most of you, I've been extremely concerned about the future of DACA. I am not a DACA recipient, but my boyfriend is and I've been on edge since the day Trump was nominated for the the presidency. I've also spent nearly a decade in politics working at the local, state and federal level, including working on Capitol Hill, so I'd like to think I have some insight on what we can expect for the next few months.
The bad news: first and foremost, please be prepared for the worst on January 20th. If Trump follows through on his promise to repeal DACA, you may have to quit your job, quit driving or drop out of school on January 20th. Save your money now in case that happens. Saving your money will give you time to figure the next few months out.
The good news: I, and many of my colleagues, don't see that happening. Trump, as we've seen, is a lot of talk and little action. DACA advocates are already reaching out to his administration to convey their concern, and the impact it would have throughout the country. Does Trump really want med students to drop out of school? Attorneys, doctors, teachers to immediately quit their jobs? Trump knows the power of bad press, and that would be a brutal image to convey on his first day.
What do I think will happen? Best case scenario, Trump stays silent on it, hoping his supporters don't pay attention to it. His 100 day plan is focused on policy and easy victories (changing lobbying rules for White House staff, proposing constitutional amendment to limit terms for Members of Congress, etc). His goal, I suspect, will be to take the low hanging, non-controversial fruit and do a victory lap. Having images of DACA recipients losing their jobs, licenses and ability to go to college makes that a little more difficult. He may choose to rescind it, but allow those who have DACA status to keep it until it expires. It will depend on the wording of his executive order.
Additionally, his Vice President, Mike Pence, supported comprehensive immigration reform under President Bush and is the grandson of an immigrant himself. Pence, according to multiple reports, has helped influence Mr. Trump's temperament (to a degree). He may be able to convince Mr. Trump of the benefits of keeping DACA. Additionally, Kellyanne Conway, Trump's campaign manager, supports immigration reform (at least she did before joining Trump's team).
Trump has surprised us from day one, so it would not surprise me at all for him to keep DACA, or actually get comprehensive immigration reform passed. Republicans control Congress. That means there will be few roadblocks to a sensible agenda. Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House is also pro-immigration reform, although I wouldn't expect them to take it up anytime soon.
I know it's a difficult situation to be in, and I know it looks like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Keep working. Keep learning. Do not change a thing until we know for sure what is happening. I suspect over the next few weeks, we'll be able to get something on the record about what will happen to DACA, so keep your ears open for DACA related news.
Additionally, I encourage each and every one of you to send a message to Trump's transition team. Keep it positive. Talk about what you've been able to accomplish with DACA status. Talk about your history, and how young you were when you arrived here. Get your friends and family to send messages of support. Do not include things like "although I didn't vote for you" or "I don't support you". Talk about the impact revoking your DACA status will have. Talk about your dreams and longterm plans. You may do so here Also, do the same with your Member of Congress and Senators. Although DACA is an executive branch program, they may be able to help sway Trump to keep it.
You are not alone. There are 800,000+ of you out there, with many more advocates on your side. And we will be there until we know what's happening. Keep your heads up and the dream alive. You've made it this far, and you can make it through this too.

I love how the whole site is coming together and you are just left out still dreaming about Hillary.

Sometimes it is okay to say "I was wrong, and I apologize"

This site needs love and affection, it will give us hope to get past all of this.

If people feel lost, they should read this and stop looking at news too much. Its all smoke screen before you're actually deported or ran out.

If you want to be glued to a screen and read every freaking Trump news story, then go ahead.

Hate to admit it guys, but OP is right. Hillary lost, we have to face facts. We can face DACA being repealed, or deportation (which I doubt), but no point in fighting it. Best course of action is to find ways to work with the current system, whether it will have a good outcome or not. I mean after months and months saying he will repeal Obamacare, he announced today he might not completely repeal it. So you really never know. Better to find ways to work with the system to get what we want than go against the grain of something more powerful.
