Ava Here!

Just a copy paste from the chatroom for those who asked for it:

So assuming we are deported to Mexico there are a few key documents that we need to have to live our lives in Mexico. They range in importance from "necessary for a little while" to "necessary forever."

1. At least temporarily, some of us might need a carta or constancia de residencia. It's a card of residency showing that we have somewhere we live. It's one of a few forms of temporary ID. We can usually get it or another form of temporary ID from the various shelters around the border that are set up to help re-acclimate the newly deported. They're free. Usually it requires stuff like proof of where you're living, such as a rental agreement or a signed document from whoever you're renting from, basic knowledge of the area where you're living (some people are asked to draw a little map of the crossroads), or even just a business card with the address of where you're living. It varies. Or if you don't have a permanent place you're living, the best bet is just to get the temporary ID from the shelters.

2. BIRTH CERTIFICATE is going to be VERY VERY VERY important. If you don't have one now, or if you only have the old school tattered version? I suggest you get a new copy NOW. You can get one from your local consulate

http://www.mexonline.com/consulate.htm

Or you can even order one online from a company that provides the service if you know more or less where you were born and registered.

http://actaamerica.com/services/birth-certificate.html

You could also contact family in mexico if you have them to ask them to obtain a copy for you.

3. CURP The CURP is akin to a SSN here in america. Every mexican national born after 1984 is assigned one and you need it for EVERYTHING. You can't open a bank account or work without one. You can look up your CURP online provided you have all your birth information and print it out RIGHT NOW from the states.
https://consultas.curp.gob.mx/CurpSP/
If the form comes back telling you that you do not have a CURP. PRINT OUT THE FORM ANYWAY. Because you will need the form that states you don't have a CURP to REQUEST a CURP later, when you are in Mexico. It's necessary to have one regardless of whether or not you were assigned one at birth.

4. Credencial Elector is your Voter Registration Card. Which, for Americans might not sound that important? But in Mexico it IS. Because in Mexico it serves as the primary form of identification. It's like a Driver's license over here. It's sometimes called the IFE or the Credencial Para Votar.

I had previously understood that you needed to be IN Mexico to obtain this identification? But from my review of the Mexican consulate website? It appears that you can request this from the united states. I've made my appointment to obtain mine on the 19th so I will follow up on this at a later date but I highly recommend that everyone try to get this as soon as possible. It's better to have it NOW then try to apply for it while you're disoriented from being deported later.

Like I said, this is the primary form of ID in mexico. You need this to have a job, to have a bank account, to rent.

5. Your Driver's License. This is something that is not free and not as necessary as you might think. Mexico has a large public transportation system and frankly, the other forms of ID are more widely used. You don't need the driver's license to open a bank account or rent. That's what the IFE is for. Frankly, i'd not be concerned about this until you're settled.

6. Mexican consulate card. It should be obvious how to get this. Go to your local consulate and apply. Why should you get this? Because it's a form of ID recognized by the mexican government, with your photograph on it. And it may serve at least temporarily while you're getting your things in order in mexico.

7. Mexican Passports can be obtained at the Mexican Consulate. And should be obtained immediately. They are good for years and you will want to have yours just in case you are given the option to peacefully transition to Mexico rather than bused to some dangerous place that you don't know.

So, to summarize.

1. You may need a temporary form of ID which you can get at the border shelters.
2. You MUST have your birth certificate at BARE minimum. RIGHT NOW.
3. If you are eligible for a CURP. Print yours out. NOW.
4. I believe you can get your Credencial Elector from the States and will update you guys on this as soon as I can but if you can't it should be your first priority upon entering Mexico because it is the primary form of ID.
5. Driver's licenses are not the primary form of ID
6. Mexican consulate cards might serve temporary
7. Get your Mexican Passport if you are financially able in case you are allowed to peacefully self deport, worst-case scenario.

I got my Voting Credential when I renewed my consulate ID. It was free, just an extra form. This was in California.

Damn,

Even the process of getting deported to Mexico sounds much more difficult that becoming legal in the U.S...

No fucking way in hell I am going back to that fucked up corrupt shit place.

Thanks for putting together the list though. I think some people might find it helpful

Guys if I'm not mistaken the voter IDs they give at consulates say something like "Para votar desde el extranjero (To vote abroad)", and they will have your US address. I wonder if they can be used when you're actually in Mexico?

Los Angeles.

It has my US address on it.
You get it in the mail a few weeks later directly from Mexico.

I did this earlier this year.

Looks like they began this in February.
univision.com

Edit1: Also, your CURP is printed on the voting credential.
I compared it to the CURP lookup tool and they match.

Edit2: CURP is also on the back of the new consulate cards (with chip).

Edit3: CURP is also on my passport, lol. (Issued 2012)

Wow, thanks for this info. I didn't even know I had a CURP until I went to the website. Greatly appreciate it!

I think I have a curp as I went to school there earlier in my life.

I even had a consular card and a passport before DACA. All I really need is the voting card.

I would just get one to vote those assholes out of power.
