Hello, have any of you ever had a good mental health counselor. A person that actually understood what it is like to struggle as an undocumented person. I used to have a good counselor for college. Last time I tried when my DACA expired, and I got fired. Well I got a student intern she was understanding, but thought it was a visa type thing. Im I'm not doing so good these days. Have you guys ever seen a health specialist? I'm afraid to open up to a counselor that doesn't like immigration. Besides immigration I have went through other family problems in life like abuse. What do you guys Do?

But you sound optimistic, and all. So what else do you Do? Right now I'm suffering from severe migraines.

I've suffered from depression my whole life. It is the battle of your life when the enemy is inside of you. I never really felt good about life until a few years ago when I got DACA. Then, I really came alive. I started to see how amazing I was and how much potential everyone saw in me. I still get bouts of sadness here and there, but I've allowed myself room to do so because it's normal to feel stressed and sad. Allow yourself to mourn what is happening, but don't let it defeat you.

Everyone has their own battle to fight, but I hope it makes you feel better that we are all pretty tense and stressed about our future. Nobody here knows what our future is gonna be. It's scary but you made it this far. I always recite this to myself when I feel down: this too shall pass. I've made it through difficult times; I can make it again.

Feel free to tell us what you feel. What you are thinking.

I saw a therapist years ago, she was more of a family friend. It was before DACA and I was fighting my mom a lot because I blamed it all on her. The therapist gave us some advice but didn't solve anything.

You should be thankful you at least have DACA. It's not that bad.

I've been depressed for a long time (not about being illegal), it comes and goes. What helps me is lifting weights. It's something I have full control over, and gives me a goal to work towards, and motivates me to not drink too much. And let's me eat huge amounts of food!

So i suggest you find a passion and stop feeling ashamed of being illegal. Shit, i went through a herpes scare earlier this year and i thought my life was over (I'm clean, got tested, false alarm). So if it helps, think of all the people with terminal diseases (i hope you don't have one) and how being illegal is just temporary.

It's hard not to be depressed when you're in this situation. You just have to do something that takes your mind off of things. You can join a gym, watch a movie, sing, write in your journal... Whatever makes you happy. Sometimes it's just good to feel sorry for yourself and stay in bed, but you just have to snap out of it the next day.

For me, sometimes I cry, sometimes I meditate, but what really helps me deal is being surrounded by family (as corny as it may seem). Just having that support from a friend, significant other, or family it makes you feel better.

i think this forum is a good place to talk. if you are able to hop into a chat, that may help you too.

i did some counseling briefly after i finished my degree, which centered in mental health. i am by no means a professional or even a specialist, but you can message me if you want to talk.

above all, i think of big significance is that we can relate to you in a few ways.

personally, i have struggled with depression since i was a teenager. it was not caused by being undocumented, but it certainly exacerbated it - and still does, to a degree.

i only received counseling once when i was around 19-20, but it did not last long. since then, i have not received any because it is expensive.

there are days that are much worse than others, and i generally just allot myself an hour or so to think about things and to experience my feelings. then, i remind myself i have things to do. it may sound odd, but my life is very busy and people who are important to me depend on me to various degrees, so i essentially force myself to snap out of it, if momentarily.

reading, cleaning, and playing video games helps me keep my mind at ease too.

hope you are OK!

I'm really behind on homework. I lost my good job, and am working a low paying job as a janitor. Im I'm really behind on homework. I am constantly lost in my mind. This DACA delay and president stuff has really hit me hard. I don't have family to talk to. My friend is too busy. I just don't know why its so easy for a rich ass man to target poor poor kids/adults and get praised for it. How easy to throw us under the bus. One attack on a minority group is an attack on all. Yet we have other minority groups that think their shot don't stink, and they hate on us. I have been practicing acts of kindness like when I forgave a person that crashed my car. I give money to the homeless, no questions asked. I practice kindness and I love everyone. I just can't help it. I have been stepped on in life for being too nice. Now I'm suffering this.
