Would Democrats legalize and offer path to citizenship to 800k DACA recipients if they knew that 99% of them would vote Republican?

It's against the self interest of the GOP to offer any kind of help to us. There are about 800k of us, and the last elections were decided by thousands of votes in some states. What interest do they have in legalizing us? None.

The cracks in the republicans and alt right supporter's arguments are beginning to show. Some of them are calling for an end to legal immigration as well as they are seeing how the countries demographics are rapidly heading towards more diversity.

No but they also know a lot of people vote democratic because they believe in immigrant rights regardless of ethnicity. Same goes for republicans, some moderate republicans do not agree with trump's hardline proposals. They have to weight that in when making decisions as well as the countries shift towards being center left.

Actually there are a couple of reasons why it would be in their best interest to legalize us. The first is to get this issue off the table so it can't be used against them in future elections, especially in the next presidential election. Remember that Trump won by slim margins because millennials did not come out to vote. If all the republicans do is create a huge humanitarian crisis by taking away DACA and deporting DREAMers without passing something to legalize us, then it will be a powerful issue that will motivate more progressive voters to come out and vote. The media will flood the news with horror stories and Nazi era comparisons about DREAMers getting deported and increase the image that republicans are evil by a hundred times.

The second reason would be that if they want to pass any kind of enforcement law they will need democratic support. If they want their money for border enforcement, more ICE officers, Immigration Judges, and their stupid border wall they will need to attach something for DREAMers at the very least or they won't get any of their enforcement stuff passed.

There might not be proactive reasons for Republicans to want to legalize us, but I think there are plenty of defensive reasons for doing so. Basically the best they can hope for is to get rid of our issue with the least amount of collateral damage for their party, which would be silencing us with some form of legalization attached to an enforcement bill that their base would be able to swallow.

Immigration is viewed by the nation as a huge problem that no one has been able to tackle. If the Republicans can finally deal with it, they will win a huge number of points for being able to do it. It isn't just an issue for us. Remember that a lot of people that lost their jobs also blame the broken immigration system, so they are also indirectly affected by it.

Its possible that the US will move towards a skill based immigration system like so many other countries have. A complete overhaul of the immigration system will have to be accompanied by trade and tax reforms as they are intertwined.

Guys, I have to be honest, if Republicans put me in a path towards citizenship, I will sell out so fast and vote Republican... I am sorry.

I would vote republican too. I agree more with republican principles anyways. Most hispanics would vote republican too if they were citizens.

Wouldn't legalizing 800k people also work in their self interest? Yea, suppressing our vote is one way, but gaining our vote because they gave us LPR is another way to beat the Dems. I bet a good majority of us would start voting GOP, or at least be more neutral about the parties as opposed to sticking with Dems, if they gave us what we've wanted for over a decade or more.

This is a good point, some people from the Reagan amnesty are still to this day voting Republican.

Principles? They don't have any principles, only hateful reactions. Hate is the binding force in the Republican party - hate of immigrants, hate of minorities, hate of gays and lesbians, hate of intellectuals, hate of liberals.

I've never seen more hateful group of people than Republicans, my facebook feed looks like sewer because of them.
