Hey guys, just throwing something out there that might be beneficial to some of you IN CASE DACA gets repealed:

I received DACA back in Oct. 2012 and naturally with that, my driver's license. Here in Mass the license is valid for 5 years and expires on the day of your birthday. For me, that means July 2017, or in 6 months (wow it's been that long!).

You can renew your license up to a year in advance and this is what i'm going to do next week before the inauguration. I don't think DACA will be repealed right away but in case it does, there might be a chance i will not be able to renew my license in 6 months.

Renewing it now, it gives me at least an ID that is valid for another 5 years. I also think that in case DACA gets repealed and my license is renewed, they will not cancel it because Mass is pretty immigrant-friendly.

There's absolutely no harm in doing this because my license would only expire on July 2022, regardless if i renew it now or close to July. I would check your state laws and determine if you might be in the same situation and get this done if possible. Might save you an immediate headache and piece of mind in case we go back to the dreaded "driving without a license" phase. Ugghh.

That's kinda cool. In CA, you gotta wait for the renewal notice from the DMV before you can renew.

Here you can also do it online, just need your name, address, SSN, DOB, and License #. Pretty convenient indeed.

You cannot renew just because your DL must be able to expire...

If you renew ahead of time you will just get a new DL with the same expiration date...

That's not necessarily true. I live in Massachusetts and mine was set to expire late this year. I was able to renew it late last year and got a new one with an expiration date in 2022. The dmv website specifically says that you are able to renew as long as it's a year out after your birthday.

I see,

it must be that it is a state dependent thing.
I renewed mine because it was legitimately expiring. I got it renewed and it is also for 2021. If you renew and it is not your time then you just get a duplicate.

Glad Massachusetts dreamers have that option.

Also, I am planning on possibly going to Boston in April. Any recommendations on places to visit/do

I live in Virginia and my DL expires along with work permit. They don't let you renew online or without approval letters from USCIS. Tough. So yes if you are able to renew for many years do it.

Long story short my husband is undocumented also. On Dec 30 we went to the DMV in Santa Ana to renew his license. We put down his SS# in the required spot and when his number was called he kept making small talk to the woman processing his application. She never asked for proof of status. Last week he got it and it is a regular DL not the AB60 that is given to people who are undocumented.

He has always had a DL because he has always had a SS#. When I expired in April 2015 I had to get a new DL and had to show my EAD to prove legal status. Joking around I told the lady processing my application that if she wanted to she could add extra time this time around. When I got my DL it had an expiration date of Jan 2018. I guess distracting the dmv workers work.

Guys,

I am having a major problem with this. I have been trying to renew my already expired ID for a few months now, with a DMV worker telling me each time that their system was not processing my "type of card" (EAD card) and to wait for a letter from the DMV in 30 days which never comes. This has happened twice now and I'm legitimately freaking out a bit. My attorney is on temporary leave and has not been able to assist.

Any help?

PS I'm in Pennsylvania.

It depends on what you are into. Check out the US Constitution, MIT labs, Harvard square, Fenway, Fanuel Hall, MFA, Duck tours, Freedom Trail, New England Aquarium or one of the whale watching boats etc.
