Hello everyone,

so i purchased a house, and am happily settled now, all moved in.

I'm wondering, for those that live in Florida under DACA; were you able to get the Homestead Exemption? i did the whole paperwork and went to their govt office in Fort Lauderdale just to get denied since i was not a citizen.

Was the employee there just misinformed or are we really out of luck when it comes to this?

The process of purchasing a house was so easy.. i don't understand why we would not be able to get the exemption. It really would help a lot since it covers a good chunk of money that i would have to pay for taxes.

any info will be very helpful!

I think the laws differ by the states. Take a look at your state and county's homestead exemption policy online

Is that like home owners exemption, to reduce you property tax?
If so try city hall and apply thru there

I'm working with Guaranteed Rate and putting down 10% I told the lender that I have DACA but he only cared about my EAD.

I need my tax exemption my taxes are $12,000.00 without the exemption and $7,000 with exemption
My wife is a USC so in the worst case scenario I can put her name on the tax exemption application (she is not on the loan but she will be on the deed).

Consider putting minimum 20% down to avoid the PMI charge and possibly reduce your interest rate. Having the best credit possible is also a given for lower rates. I would also advise on going to some first-time homebuyer classes. Many non-profits have classes for free, just research in your area.
