Someone in another thread mentioned Amnesty.

I remember people were floating around the idea of Amnesty when Obama left office.

My question is, is it possible to provide amnesty to 800,000 thousand people?

I do not think it was ever settled when Obama left.

Say Trump really has the heart he claims (highly unlikely), I was wondering if he could go rogue...

If not amnesty, is there any way he can go rogue through any other mechanism. I know Ianus mentioned something about deferred action through C14. I am not sure what it is or what are the ramifications but it is worth discussing.

I am just tired of all the bullshit articles lately.

I don't think Trump is willing to go out of his way to help us. For DACA, all he has to do is not rescind it. There is no way he will go against his base, his administration and advisors to do something this big.

I understand that, but honestly, I have more faith in him right now than the Democratic plan...

I do agree with your assessment but I guess one thing we know is that he goes against advice and he does whatever the fuck he wants.

You mean general amnesty for Dreamers as opposed to the DREAM Act which has an education requirement?

If I'm not mistaken I believe your referring to the immigration "pardon" that was mentioned before President Trump took office and the answer to that is NO. It will not put us in a path to anything and if Obama didn't do it why should president Trump?

Yes, well

I don't think it was ever cleared up. I believe the issue also had to do with Obama having a view of the Constitution. It was at some point floated around that his believe was that he couldn't use those powers, or that it would be innapropriate. It was his opinion though.

President Trump swears by the constitution, if Obama didn't do it, imagine the outrage with President Trump's base.

Quote:
Explained in easier terms: the clemency power as currently interpreted only applies to criminal violations, not civil ones. Unlawful residence in the United States is a civil violation. Thus, as the pardoning power is currently interpreted, Obama could not forgive illegal immigrants for that crime.

But even if the president did vastly expand the scope of that power to include civil violations, it still wouldn't matter much because a pardon would not and cannot change their ongoing legal status - only Congress has the power to do that via legislation.

Well according to the GOP we are all strictly criminals of the worst kind. I agree, our situation is just to the point that is laughable. I am so desperate...

I feel you, if it makes you feel comfortable though, you're not alone and we are all there sharing that same pain. I do believe will be fine, even without a permanent solution.
