UPDATE:
Recently made the trip to the USVI. You'll be fine with a state-issued driver's license and your EAD. Happy times!

I'm flying out of st Thomas soon. Hopefully customs won't make me miss my flight.

Well you know you should be at the airport a good 3 or so hours before the flight, just in case... Customs shouldn't hold you longer than 10 minutes...

Yeah I'm here 3 hours before and I'm just waiting at the gate it was super fast. I hate being early.

BTW the guy at customs took my EAD then after a minute he said follow me. He took me to another room where he said here you go this one is for you. The custom guy there took my EAD and made me fill out a sheet. After I was done, I was let go and went through TSA.

It was straightforward. Similar experience when I came back from.mexico with AP but much nicer.
