They will send you the whole packet back. I spoke to 3 different USCIS agents and they all confirmed that if you sent a money order, you can resend the Original packet back with the difference of $30. To be honest I still didn't feel 100% confident sending it in like that because I'm a bit o.c.d about these things. But that's what's I ended up doing because it would have put my $465 money order in limbo for 30+ days otherwise (it takes 30+ days to see a refund from western union).

not trying to highjack this thread but very similar question. on check where it says pay to, i wrote USCIS. will they reject and send it back or someone had experience like that? thanks

So today I got a rejection letter saying my 465 was wrong for the fee. I sent one check for the whole amount. The fee went from 495 to 465 for the year of 2017 did it not?

If anyone has any experience with this: Can I send back the original form that they sent back.

Other way around. It used to be $465, and now it went up to $495.
