Hey Elastic228! I also have a engineering degree with many years of experience (5+
years). Can you elaborate or message me with details on how you applied (if you dont mind what your score was on the IETLS and points for the express entry system?)
Pleaaaase! I'll give you cookies!

Its a points based system and if you can get enough points (by scoring high on IELTS, Your degrees, and work experience), its a great option. My Engineering degree was under Category A federal professionals. I know many people trying this option from all the uncertainty in the US.

If you're skilled and qualified, do your research and take a chance. It wouldn't hurt.

I haven't even thought of it much. Just trying to absorb what this terrible gov't going to do. But after spending all my life in NYC, I'm thinking Toronto would be most suitable place.

I had a total of 430 points. No provisional nominee, meaning I can go to any state in Canada.

My engineering profession was listed in NOC 'A'

IELTS: Listening 8, Reading 7, Writing 7.5, Speaking 8.5, overall 8

Bachelors of Engineering degree. I had over 4 years of experience. I think you get max points with 3 years (please confirm).

I received 430 points based on below:
Age (30 years) = 105 points
Education (bachelors ) = 120 points
Language (IELTS) = 130 points

Skill Transferability (additional points based on how much you score on IELTS)
Education with Language = 25 points
Foreign work with language = 50 points

Total = 430 points

Used this site to check score
https://www.canadavisa.com/comprehen...alculator.html

Read this guide on the forum. It helped me a lot
http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-imm...ctions.273928/

It takes a bit of effort to gather paperwork and research but we've done a lot more as an engineering students.

Nope. They don't ask for anything besides your travel document, which would be your passport. No need to show any visa etc. You would need FBI background check. which is $18 and takes 2 months (slowest thing in the whole process)

Did they ask for proof of sufficient funds to support yourself?

Do you know how many more points a master's in engineering is? I guess maybe it would even out in the end anyway because I have less experience than 3 years

Bachelors = 120
Bachelors + certificate = 128
Bachelors + Masters = 135

Check this link to confirm and verify the math
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/grid-crs.asp

Yeah you may lose some points on experience but keep working and gain few months as you get IELTS and other requirements completed and submit application.

I always assumed I would have to return to my home country to apply for a visa in the final steps. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'm going to look into this
