I think there was more hope at the time and the forum seemed more active on trying to ensure something passed.

2010 was actually kind of an anxious year. Arizona and Alabama were passing "show me your papers" laws. Texas had also changed their driver's license laws to ask for immigration papers as were other states who were complying with Real ID. Nationally, there were talks of Dream Act but it would never materialize and most of the talk was about making things tougher.

The economy was losing hundreds of thousands of jobs a month vs the lowest unemployment rate in two decades.

I was a junior in high school during this time. Nevertheless I would send endless number of faxes to various senators, conduct many phone calls, and send many emails. I would also read a blog called SENATUS on Wordpress that discussed any potential debate in the Senate. I used to also check the calendars for the judiciary committee for upcoming hearings.

After the failed 2010 vote, and being from Arizona, I was concerned about my future. One of my biggest fears was that the D.A./C.I.R. would not regain much momentum as it previously had an no vote would come for the bill. In a way, I saw such legislation as the only opportunity to have the opportunity to succeed after high school. Little did I know that was far from the truth.

I truly hope the D.A. (or similar legislation) is able to finally become law.

2010 was a roller coaster year of excitement, hope, anguish, utter disappointment. I still remember all the “call the senators” rallies we had on this forum with all my brothers. Ianus, da user, mona lisa, dreamact1982 and many others i still remember.

Wonder why there isn’t a similar momentum in the forum.

There honestly wasn't any. Any democratic to do list there was we were always on the bottom of, any new issue would cut in at least in front of us.
Dream Act got one filibustered vote in September no one remembers and then another in December.

It felt like it was an issue that Schumer and Durbin wanted to tackle, but Reid avoided it like the plague.

I still don't know why they didn't try to force DA in the conference committee and just ditched it.

Even right now I feel like we have more momentum just because democrats have a list of things they want in order for them to raise the debt ceiling. We'll see if they keep us in mind or toss us away like a bargaining chip.

Yes guys, the big vote is about the debt ceiling, budgets can roll forward without ever being passed. Debt ceiling can be filibustered no matter what.
