You can tell when someone is from NY by this comment. Have you any idea how big Long Island is?

Welcome to NYC.

A few tips:

1) Driving: Just don’t. Yes you can buy a car, but get ready to pay outrageously for insurance and parking. Street parking is possible but it’s hard to find a spot depending where you live and at times you may just spend an hour trying to find a parking spot.

2) Rent: I hope you have a high income, because if you don’t you’ll spend a large portion of your paycheck on rent alone. Forget living in Manhattan. Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx are your friends. Still higher rent than anywhere else in America.

3) Population: NYC is crowded. Everywhere you go you’ll bump into people. Trains and buses are always crowded and once you live here the magic of NYC wears away and you’ll realize how expensive and dirty this city is. Why do I live here given all this? I’ve been here most of my life, you get used to it.

4) Entertainment: This is why people move here. This city really never sleeps. Trains and buses are 24/7. Going out at 3am and seeing people outside and bars and restaurants open as if it was 8pm is normal. There’s always something to do and somewhere to go.

5) Cost of living: Ultra expensive, super expensive, it’s just expensive. Food, clothing, rent, transportation. Everything costs more. Get used to it. That beings said, it isn’t impossible to live here on a modest income but your quality of life will be poor.

NY will eat a weak individual like OP alive. He will eventually just blame his parents for his actions.
