Urgent Question about Teaching

Hey everyone,

Is there anyone who knows about education programs in grad school? I am planning to go to grad school but I think in order ti go into the student teaching component one has to be fingerprinted or something... does anyone know anything about this? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

At least in the state I live in you have to go through a background check before they let you student teach.
A background check needs a social security number and a DL #. I volunteer with kids all the time and they've ran background checks on me using my social. No one's turned me into ICE yet. But it's up to you and how comfortable you feel.

I'm in CA. and I've finished student teaching. For a background check I used my foreign passport, when I did it I didn't know whether it would be accepted, but thank GOD everything worked out fine.

I already have my teaching degree, but when I was in school I had to get TWO background checks. I was so SCARED when I went to my local police station. Both times I went I had to fill out a form that asked for my social security number and I left this part blank both times. The lady then asked me if I had a ssn and I simply said no. She then said ok and asked me for two ids. I showed her my college id and matricula consular. She made copies of both and asked me to come back in two days. When I went back I was still scared because I didn't know if ICE was going to be waiting for me lol. Luckily every thing was fine and I now have a teaching degree.
I think it all depends on where you live. I live in a city that has a lot of undocumented people and everyone seems to be aware of it. I think that is why the lady didn't say anything when I told her I didn't have a ssn. One thing I can tell you is that when you are in the type of situation we are all in, you have to be willing to take risks because nothing is going to be given to you.

Yeah I don't know about taking risks at this stage. Anyway it's too late for me to apply to some of these schools since I did not sign up to take the GRE this year. I am planning to apply to a university in NY--and since they recently allowed the driver license thingy, it would be more convenient to go there and stuff.
