Dafly,
I did the same thing, since I didn't want to bother with putting an A number if I selected the other choices (One lie is better than two, I thought). However, there was never any caveat on the college application about penalties for this particular case, but I do know that doing so on the I-9 employment verification form submitted to CIS would most likely get you in trouble (that form actually has a warning near the choices).

To add to that, my guidance counselor in high school filled out state merit scholarship applications for students and just checked citizen because she assumed I was one. I accepted the aid ($500/semester), but since she filled out the application without my original consent, I assume I am not at fault.

I hope I'm right.

However, i did not give a SSN and this is my forth semester at the college. i was told that if you are caught claiming to be a US citizen then you are deported and forever band from coming back.... i also got an application pending and it should be coming soon because in the Visa bulletin my priority date is very close... so am so confused and worry about what should i do!!.... is anybody going through the same or a similar situation... can anybody help me.... it will be of great help
i totally understand (i graduated HS in MA). you had a choice to make: either check the citizen box and go to school or don't go at all and i think you made the right one (i checked that box too ) and i don't think that it could get you deported. finish school, keep calling and get yourself a GOOD laywer when dream passes.

You shouldn't have done that..
Anyway I believe the lifetime ban is only if you claim to be a U.S. citizen for IMMIGRATION purposes..

New guy here. Good to see something like this around. Didn't know this forum existed till yesterday evening.

I think this so called dilemma is nothing to be worried about. I mean your in a dilemma now. You are out of status and can't really do anything about it. Once DREAM passes!, you are able to do something about it. Thats how I see it anyway.

believe it or not, a close relative of mine works at a detention center too...talk about conflict of interest.

One story I heard was some of the ICE officers there ordered Chinese food and half-jokingly decided to ask for the delivery guy's documents. Turned out that all of them were illegal except the owner of the restaurant. It's so sad that things like this happen, and it scares me of course.
