sample letter to US academics and important, influential people

LET DREAMS COME TRUE - PLEASE SUPPORT “DREAM ACT”

Since the comprehensive immigration bill died in Senate this year, I strongly urge you to advocate the passage of the DREAM Act. The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act (also called "The DREAM Act") is a bill that is strictly tailored to provide a path to citizenship for immigrant students who either complete at least two year of college or enroll in the armed forces. Please speak in favor of this legislation to encourage the thousands of undocumented students in high school, colleges and universities across the country.

Immigrants have been the backbone of United States economy. This bill is urgently needed so that undocumented students who grew up in the US can achieve their dream of going to college or enlisting in the armed forces, so that they can freed up to fully contribute to our country.

When I was 12, my parents legally immigrated to the United States in search for a better life with abundant opportunities for themselves and their children. Over the years, they held menial jobs and worked long hours and weekends just to help pay for my brothers’ tuition and other related expenses. Despite the strenuous life style, they decided to overstay their visas and settle here so my brothers and I can take advantage of the educational system.

I attended Junior High School in the States and graduated valedictorian of my graduating class in High School. I presently study in an accredited four-year college. Unlike other students, I am not looking forward to my graduation since I will not be able to work legally. I will be forced out of this country.

DREAM Act has overwhelming bipartisan support from the House and the Senate. I strongly urge you to support the passage of the DREAM Act to help undocumented children like me, fulfill our dreams and thus, contribute to the American economy and way of life.

I request and urge you to please discuss this matter with your fellow educators and students. Please advocate that the US Congress not punish innocent children for dreaming for a brighter future. I have been in this country for the most of my life, yet I feel like a second-class citizen who cannot even pursue his academic goals. Please help make DREAM Act a reality.

Your cooperation and assistance in this matter will be highly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Undocumented Student

Sing it to member of the Dream Act Portal Forum. People tend to pay more attention to groups than individuals. We are an informal organization but an organization still and we ought to use that to our advantage. we can always ask Nick how many active member this site has and include it. "I am a member of the Dream Act Portal Forum which has 100 active members" This will bring attention to ourselves and some respect too. Just a sugestion, you do not have to take it as an order.
