This is what they should do, stop accepting petitions for anything that isn't minor children or spouses while honoring approved petitions regardless of relationship to sponsoring party.

But the incompetence in congress is so big that I doubt they can come out with something remotely closer. They lack creativity.

Didn't they say that they were going to go to their retreat regardless of what happened? Once again they are showing that they do not have the courage to stand up against the GOP.

I do not agree with a shutdown because that will lower their chances to get elected, but if you are looking to see if the Democrats have a spine, these is showing that they do not have one.

Yesterday they did say they were still going, but would have the engines running in case they needed to head back quickly. If they were going to head back quickly anyway, might as well stay in D.C.

Senators Durbin, McCain, Collins, Schumee, Flake, Graham, Menendez should put the Dream Act on the floor and vote. Stand up and fight. Dream Act + some wall funding.

Why the hell are democrats fighting for chain migration? If a USC sponsors their brother here it will take decades for them to come here based on priority date. Democrats are fighting for chain migration for no reason but for immigration solution not to get passed during trumps presidency bcuz it will look bad on the dems. Whats not american values is the over 21 sons/daughters of USC and perm resident parents whos immigration petition is stuck in limbo due to slow uscis and priority date -__-
Besides ending chain migration keeps in tact the already filed petitions.

You’re delusional. How in the fuck would they put the Dream Act on the floor for a vote? Educate yourself, please.

They can't. The Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell controls the bills that are voted on.

There is no reason why both can't be in place. Who does it hurt if someone comes here to work as a scientist using merit based and then brings his parents? For a lot of people who come from oppressive countries, going back to even visit them is a big risk so why shouldn't they have the right to take care of their family?

You want to talk merit based, do you think that all Dreamers are valedictorians and highly skilled scientists? I would bet you there are just as many Dreamers who are fast food workers, slackers, and landscapers but they are also pleading for compassion while supporting merit based.

You can't ask for compassion for dreamers while lacking it for US citizens who want to be with their family members. If we're going to go merit based, let's go all out. Only allow Dreamers with a PhD. MD, or higher. Engineer? who gives a shit, there are enough engineers here. Plumber? We don't need any Jose el plomero when Joe the Plumber is looking for work.

You and the others on here want to have it both ways. You want Americans to have compassion for you and only you while pulling the rug out from now just current undocumented immigrants, aged out dreamers, future dreamers, and people waiting to find a way to come here right now, but also to end ALL future immigration from anybody who is not already well to do. You have made up your mind that some guy 20 years from now who might cure cancer is not going to come here because he wasn't already a PhD. All potential is gone.

A Dream Act version will be voted on - amendments achieve what the bill being voted on lacks. You need to educate yourself.
