WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork) — Congress has until midnight to pass a spending plan to avoid a government shutdown.

Senate leaders have agreed on a two-year budget plan, but it’s facing tough resistance in the House. The bipartisan compromise is expected to pass the Senate on Thursday.

I swear, these politicians always like to wait until the last minute to pass anything. I feel like nothing will get done until March 5th. Next week the debate starts, then they will go home for a week for their recess, and they will be back in Congress on the 26th to debate for another week. Won't be surprised if they pass something on March 4 at midnight lol

I take my car to a Vietnamese owned European cars shop. They say it's 40k lol. Their wait for bringing people through normal family channels is extending massively so now they are looking for alternatives lol

Anyone know when the vote is taking place? If there is a government shutdown, I want to be prepared with snacks and booze.

Wait why is Paul the only one able to stop it? Couldn't they flip another D or R?

It's not about having enough votes. I believe the votes are there. It's a procedureal step - they need to ask for unaminaous consent to proceed and Paul keeps refusing to give it.

From US Senate glossary terms:

Quote:
unanimous consent - A senator may request unanimous consent on the floor to set aside a specified rule of procedure so as to expedite proceedings. If no Senator objects, the Senate permits the action, but if any one senator objects, the request is rejected. Unanimous consent requests with only immediate effects are routinely granted, but ones affecting the floor schedule, the conditions of considering a bill or other business, or the rights of other senators, are normally not offered, or a floor leader will object to it, until all senators concerned have had an opportunity to inform the leaders that they find it acceptable.
