My father works in Santa Monica, he said ice come into his workplace and they wanted to see everyone’s papers. The manager told them to go to headquarters because that’s were they keep the paperwork. I heard about anew law in California were employers can resist cooperation with ice asking for warrants and notifying employees of a investigation. Has anyone had any experiences like these? Do you think ice will take time out of their busy schedule to investigate? I mean raids are supposed to be quick and short so no one has time to escape right?

This is crazy. Isn't California a immigrant friendly state?? Aren't most of its cities a sanctuary city??
"Do you think ice will take time out of their busy schedule to investigate?" That is the quesrion that we wont know. Its been difficult already now that the cheeto man is in charge. I've been hearing about ICE raids a lot now ever since he stepped in office.

No raid, but the owner of my wife's company told her that ICE showed up and demanded paperwork for 10 random employees. They checked out and left. She works at a company with 150 employees.

They're targeting California to send a message. Its the most immigrant friendly state, but that doesnt mean you are free and clear. If anything, you are under the most scrutiny ever.

1. Lots of undocs to capture and pad deportation numbers
2. Targetting immigrant friendly state sends a message
3. Where the fuck is dream act

Unfortunately, I’m afraid ICE is going to continue raiding these places and doing site inspections. This administration wants to let it be known that anyone who hires unauthorized workers will be penalized and face penalties which in return these fines only help them fund more raids and increase their numbers. Being in California sends that message loud and clear because of the push back on immigration but it’s also something that the corporation that I work for has to deal with and prepare for and we’re in Texas and Louisiana. Last summer our corporation hired a corporate immigration law firm to do random internal audits of our I-9’s and are on standby to assist with raids and defense, something our senior board members say they’ve never before had to worry about. Enforcement is here and it’s very sad that instead of going after the real criminals and bad hombres, they come after hard working, tax paying immigrants who actually contribute to this country.

There is a new law (AB 540). Hopefully employers can act on it, it seems like its confusing to begin with

I don't understand that California Law all too well to be honest but I do know it makes things more complicated for HR personnel to understand which could actually drive more and more employers to E-Verify.

https://cis.org/Arthur/Chilling-Effe...pportunity-ICE

My colleague in California (Regional HR Director) explained that after the arrest someone paying a traffic ticket they interrogate them about their place of employment and get them to cooperate and confess that someone at that establishment had some knowledge of them working there illegally. ICE issues Notice of Intent to Fine forcing companies to cooperate and that makes the new law irrelevant.

California is a sanctuary state lol. It might not be for long though. GOP campaigning is going on hard and people hate the stupid gas tax, and housing prices out the roof

some of you are being hypocritical.
you know why they can't target just the criminals and bad people?
exactly because of things like sanctuary city laws.

Oh come on. The Director of ICE has publicly proclaimed no undocumented person should feel safe! They want to go after everyone; sanctuary city or not. They are angry that some cities are willing to offer some level of protection to its undocumented residents and that's why they are targeting these cities.
