Hello Everyone,

I’ve been coming to this forum the past few years but never joined until now.
My wife and I want to buy a house but I don’t know if it’s the right time with everything that is going on. What do y’all think??

I don't know your exact situation, but just from the question itself, I would not.

I would put the down payment towards an emergency funds to survive an income loss or possibly having to relocate.

I’m sure there will be some sort of DACA extension, but from a financial stand point I wouldn’t do any so major unless there was permanent relief, which doesn’t seem likely right now.

id buy it , it was a no brainer for me back when we didnt have a social and had to come up with at least 20% down payment and no status at all , now we qualify for FHA loans that do not require large down payments so not as big of a risk, chances are we will get through this, if not by the time we get sent back youll have built more in equity than what you'll spend in the process of buying and the money you are throwing away paying rent. Always pay a bit more towards the principal than the minimum it will make a huge difference.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I’m just in a limbo right now like everyone else. I wish they had a fucking idea how much we have to go through not knowing if we are going to be safe in this great country or not. I just want to work, get into debt with a house and car payments like every other American and live a quite peaceful life with my wife and daughter.

If you're currently renting, why not? You'll be paying about the same monthly either way so just go with payments towards actually owning something.

Are you going to finance it? If so, I would wait unless your wife is a permanent resident or citizen. If you are paying cash for it, go for it as its value will only increase.

In the end, this is something you and your wife should discuss as no one in this forum will take over your debt should anything happen. Good luck.

I would definitely hold off on buying a house right now unless your spouse is a US citizen and your in the process of adjusting status. With this climate, I would not buy anything even if you have the cash to pay for the house. As we have seen people are being deported after living here for 50 plus years, I'm sure some them had property in the U.S and no longer have access to it.

I would do it. I bought a condo last year and gave it to my ex-wife. I am saving up to buy one next year.
