Large security deposit is not a problem. I just need to be able to find a decent apartment without credit.

Any affordable safe areas?

Any Portland specific websites, groups?

Thanks!

Yes. Since you are considered a contractor and you get a 1099 instead of a w2.

I have vacationed around Portland and the Gorge area. The people there wasn't friendly with us at all. Just like New Yorkers, they will only talk to you if they need. They are very strict and so are their laws. You should read this: https://www.usnews.com/news/best-sta...ivers-licenses. The Washingtonians are way more friendly, in fact, the friendliest people I have ever met here in US. Everyone who crossed paths with us said hello. There were a few occasions where some food market cashiers offered us to bring our bags to our car. The Washington DL gives 5 years and no mentions of immigration status. You can live in Vancouver,WA. just across the bridge from Portland. It will be cheaper and in WA there is no income tax. If you want to live even better, consider Camas, WA. In 10 to 20 minutes you will be in Portland.

True their DL is issued to WA residents regardless of immigration status.

Camas to PDX in 10-20 mins only happens when no one is on the road. In rush hour it normally takes 1 hour to go from downtown PDX to the I-5 bridge. You need to keep that in mind if you want to commute from Vancouver to Portland.

Thanks for this!

Didn't notice Portland is right by the OR/WA border

Another thing to consider is that Washington has a sales tax but no state income tax. Oregon has no sales tax but it does have a state income tax.

Haha funny story about Vancouver, WA. When I covered for another consultant in Portland OR for a week. I saw that across the bridge was Vancouver and I was so afraid to drive the rental car across because I thought it was Vancouver in Canada for some reason. Had to pull over and check the map.

Try a Voodoo donut while you're down there.

Portland is the best. You're going to love it here! This past weekend state legislators passed a bill allowing DACA recipients to renew their Oregon driver's license so even if your EAD expires you can still renew your license.
