Hi All,

Looking to purchase a home with my wife (Green Card holder). On the application, we made her as the primary borrower and me as the co-borrower. I told the loan officer that I am on a work permit but the loan officer is asking what type of work permit I have; whether it is H1B, etc. He said he needs to know the type of visa to see if it's on their approved list.

I'm not really comfortable telling this person that I am a DACA recipient. I'm working with a lending company (Guaranteed Rate). Any advice?

Your best bet is to be honest with the loan officer. You don't want to lie and it comes right back to bite you. With everything that's going on right now there's a high chance that it will.

Thanks. Yea I never planned to lie. I was just caught off guard since I thought that an EAD card is enough proof for them.

I worked for a loan company and they want to know that you will be employed long enough to pay off your loan. Its part of their process to see how risky making a loan to you and your wife will be. Some wont care as long as you can verify that for the past 3 or so years you had a consistent job and you income can support a house.

I just bought my house last week. I was straight up with the loan officer. I told them I had a renewable 2 year working permit. He never asked what kind. He did ask if I had renewed it before. I told him yes that I’ve renewed it twice before. He asked for copies of the expired EAD’s which luckily I found when I went through a whole bunch of things. His manager was also asking for my passport. Which I didn’t have at the time and he found a way to get around it. But other then that I had no problems.
