Guys so I applied August 1, 2017 and after months of honestly anxiety, depression, and well just about to give up on DACA entirely, I finally got approved yesterday (first time application). I'm so happy, especially since I have to start applying for engineering internships since I'm about to start my final year of college undergrad.

Anyways, what should I do next? I mean, I know what I have to do next (apply for SS #, state ID - I live in New York City, and maybe even a drivers license). Any advice or tips anybody has?

I would greatly appreciate it. I know this is not a permanent thing, but I'll just enjoy it for the next 2 years and hope that by then something permanent is achieved.

Try to intern at a company in Washington, get a driver license there. You will get a 5 years one.

Then honestly just work hard and save up.

My best advice is don’t get into trouble. You wouldn’t want to earn yourself a trip back to your country. Don’t take the permit for granted. Put God first and you’ll be ok.

First and most importantly do NOT take this opportunity for granted. Sometimes we get caught in the moment that just because we now have a Social Security number and a official Drivers License we some how feel untouchable. Remind yourself at all times that we are not untouchable.

Don’t be drinking and driving and don’t do anything you’re not supposed to be doing. Focus on yourself and you’re career and most importantly you’re family. Congratulations!!

Go on vacation. Enjoy not having to take your passport with you when you fly (I have a NY DL and I didn't have issues boarding a plane so I don't think RealID has affected anything yet).

What does real ID have to do with anything? New York has been enforcing it .

Just don't do DUI like a lot of Dreamers here. I wouldn't want to troll your 'DUI what to do now' thread.

I am beyond excited for you.... I also live in NYC and also have a priority date of 08/01/2017 , also an initial application routed to California Service Center. Hopefully i get accepted soon. Hopes up....

*As soon as you receive your EAD Card go to the social security office(must be the one located in 123 William St, New York, NY 10038 )
, fill out the application... once you get called to the counter the agent will request proof of your immigration status and submit your application.
You should receive your SSN Card in about a week or 2.
As soon as you receive your your SSN card schedule an appointment with DMV for your state id or driver's learner permit. (you will need a total of 6 points in order to get your id)

https://dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/pr...-permitlicense (click on link for a list a of required documents you can submit)

Make sure you apply for your social with the name as it appears on your EAD, and all documents you submit to DMV must have your name the same exact way otherwise NY DMV will not issue your id.

*State id is like $10-14, learner's permit is $77.
When you receive your learner's permit register for the required 5 hour driving class, you will receive a certificate at the end of the class.
Once you go obtain the certificate schedule your road test (if you know how to drive already) and if you pass Walaaaa (LOL sorry for the wala) ... your get your NYS Drivers License.

sorry for the long response I have an EAD Card (not through DACA) and know the hectic process.

Once you have all your documents take a nice vacation and enjoy the next 2 years.
