Hey, guys. I have been thinking about my future about a long time and I think that my life can't be on pause forever. I have been in the United States for about 13 years. I was granted DACA since the beginning of the program and I remember crying when I first saw the message that I was approved. My dream is to become a commercial pilot and to travel the world. Before DACA, I didn't travel anywhere. Once I had DACA, I traveled across the country to so many different states. I applied for AP and I was very fortunate to travel to Europe and Asia. I have also been fortunate to travel to Hawaii twice on my own. I usually travel on my own but I have explored all the states that I wanted to visit but now I feel stuck. All I want in life is to travel and explore new cultures and work toward my commercial license. I have come to the point where I have become disillusioned with the idea of ever getting a permanent residency in the US. My family back home works closely with their government and offered me to leave the US and start my career somewhere else. I don't know what to do. I have my parents in the US, my dog, and friends for a lifetime. I work for one of the greatest companies in the world (they even pay for all my DACA expenses) but I feel like I'm always dreaming but my dreams are not possible at the moment. What do you guys think? I guess I'm just venting, But I'd like to hear what some of you guys think or what you guys are going through. Thanks for hearing me out.

Congrats on having a job you like and in a position where you have been able to travel. It seems as if you are in a position where you have maxed out your potential in the U.S and you can break that ceiling by relocating. Correct me if I am misreading your situation. In that case, I would totally go back home and find a job. Of course, I recognize that that decision is not that easy. The 10 year ban would undoubtedly suck. However, family and friends can visit you and you will be able to grow professionally and plan for the future.

For example, I wouldn't mind going back to my home country (Mexico). What is keeping me here is that I don't feel I have accomplished in the U.S what I want to. I am in a PhD program in a humanities field. Once I finish, I would be happy to take my degree back home. If you have completed your goals here, and now you are at a point where you could reach your other goals elsewhere, go for it.

Though of course I have grown attached to the U.S and would prefer to stay rather than leave, it is not about attachment to place anymore. It is about the ability to pursue goals. Mine are academic, and thus that is what is keeping me here until finishing my degree. If they were professional (not that one is less than the other, don't get me wrong), I would go back where I have the ability to plan long term and kick ass.

Do you think your life would be any better back in your home country? Remember that if you move whatever you have here, you will lose. Salaries, opportunities and lifestyles are not the same across countries. If your life wont be any better in your home country, then you should stay.

I wonder if the potential 10 year ban to any US cities/territories can significantly harm your job prospect as a commercial pilot when you leave. Or are pilots exempt from that penalty?

Thanks for all the replies, guys. It feels good being heard. I think the 10 year ban will take effect even if I’m a commercial pilot. That’s my ordeal. I just feel stuck now and with the lack of news and major movement, I started being depressed but I always push through. It’s such a tough position. I wouldn’t go back to my home country, my family would send me somewhere else but restarting my life is such a tough thought.

I'm in similar boat. I have done all the traveling in USA that I want to do. Now I'm just repeating trips over and over again. Nothing else for me to explore.

What's your home country?

Thinking about going back to my home country when I get my B.S. this summer. I gave up finding a wife that'll hopefully grant me that LPR. I didn't qualify for DACA btw, I was 2 months late...
