Hey, everyone. I am currently in PTA school where I am going to start doing clinical rotations in the summer.

I'm from WA state, and I had a social worker help me get health insurance through WA state. Coverage started in February, and all seemed to be going well, but I just got a notice from the insurance that I am not qualified because of my DACA status and that coverage will terminate at the end of April. I've emailed the social worker asking what is wrong since she helped me through the step and told me it would be okay. She hasn't replied back yet but I figured I should start researching for a way to get health insurance again before summer when clinical start (it's mandatory to have it).

Do you guys know of any national and/or WA state health insurance that DACA beneficiaries can apply? Coverage could suck really badly. I just need to have any type of insurance so that I can do my clinical rotations. Im hoping some of you guys have been in the same situation as me with needing insurance for medical-related school and can help me out.

Thanks in advance.

As DACA recipients, we are not allowed to receive federal subsidies (including those for health insurance).

A lot of schools offer private health insurance at a discounted rate to its students. Have you checked out if your school offers it?

Ill ask my school.. but it's a technical college, so idk if they would have something like that.

Anyone else have any other advice? It would suck for me to be this far into the program and then stop because I cant get health insurance as a DACA beneficiary...

You can always buy private insurance from the companies. You just can't participate in the federal program like ObamaCare.

Like you said, if you don't care much about coverage, just get a plan with high deductible and low coverage. (like car insurance with only liability)

Plans are much cheaper if you wanna do HMO.
And this is just my knowledge, I am nowhere near an expert in this

Try ehealthinsurance.com This is where my Dad got his insurance before his got his GC. He was paying $215 for a family of 3. It was United Healthcare Saver 80. It wasn't a good insurance but it helped me especially when my school required me to have an insurance.
