It's been a while since I've been here. If you don't know or remember, I was fortunate enough to adjust through my USC husband. We're currently planning to visit Mexico since I haven't been there since I was 6 yrs old. I wanted to know for those who travelled and came back how the process was with Customs? It's a scary thought especially since being undocumented for such a long time has deeply affected me. For those who travelled back and forth, if you can share your experience with customs and especially what to expect, will be greatly appreciated!
I've travelled to both Canada and Mexico and there haven't been any problems coming back. You'll be fine, the only thing holding you back at this point is yourself.

At the Vancouver Airport they have CBP pre-clearance and the process lasted about 1 min when talking to a CBP officer. It was the same when we made the trip up north by car.

Coming back from Mexico we connected at San Diego Airport. It took longer waiting for our checked bags than it did to go though immigration and customs.

Greatly appreciate those who responded. I currently have a 2 yr green card "conditional" since at the time we were interviewed we were just married around 1 1/2 yrs.

Also, do you have to speak Spanish to the people checking my documents both going to Mexico or coming back? My Spanish is rough now, but I still somewhat understand. Do I have to explain that I grew up in the US, that's why I'm not as fluent in Spanish as I should be?

Not really, especially if you go to a touristy area in Mexico. If you fly in they make you fill out a form. Once you arrive in Mexico you go through immigration and give them the form, they may ask you a question and then stamp your passport. If Mexican immigration agents ask you any questions, you just tell them that you're there for vacation/to see family.

After you go through immigration, you then pass through customs and press a button for a "street light". Green light means go, red means your luggage gets searched by customs.
