I am just wondering what everyone thinks about this new immigration push and the discharge petition that is happening in the house ( if you not sure what i am talking about google daca discharge petition).

I personally think that anything that leaves the house, will be dead in the senate. Our best chance for protection will be one of the spending package but congress is looking to actively stop that by doing a serious of "minibus" instead of the omibus at year end.

Also post any new developments so everyone can be aware of what is happening since it effects us all.

I think it depends. Assuming the USA Act were to pass the House, in my opinion, it’s entirely possible that the Senate would take up a similar bill with more demands from Republicans. The end result, if that bill were to pass, would be a compromise of the two bills. It’s not entirely unlikely that this could happen. The issue remains that that ugly cunt bitch Miller would probably influence Trump to not back anything. But idk, a move like that would deeply hurt the Republican Party... Congress manages to pass a solution just for Trump to veto it. Plus he really wants his wall money.

Imo the discharge petition will take us nowhere because it is so easy to sabotage. Either the democrat leadership or the far right republicans.

Right now there is a political battle behind the curtains using judges. dems are trying to keep daca alive for political purposes maintaining the status quo and republicans are trying to get rid of daca to create a crisis and put pressure on democrats to change the immigration laws passing their own "daca bill". And i think republicans will get away with it.

Good luck to everyone. I dont see this as the end but as a transition. While it will hurt other immigrants, asylum seekers, or cousins lol. We need to be glad wr are being taken into consideration. There is nothing we can do about this other than make the best out of this.

I personally feel like all the substantial aspects of this battle take place behind the scenes, and what is happening in the House right now is just posturing. In addition, after almost two decades of false truths and false hopes, the only time I find news articles on immigration to be of any worth these days, is when I encounter those that clearly depict any major donor's opinion on DACA or Dreamers.

At the end of the day there is only one phrase with unequivocal power of truth and substance behind it: "money talks".

with the recent court stuff it definitely feels more like repubs are setting up to completely cuck dems on this issue.
if the SCOTUS sides with repubs, they'll get all the leverage. the question then will be how much dems are willing to swallow their pride to get something passed.

I agree, this battle is stressful and Texas's lawsuit is not helping.

Mc Connell already said that he will not bring up a bill without the president and significant republican support. USA act is dead if left as is even if it passes the house. For the USA act to be considered, it will need Changes which dems are already fighting.

I really do not trust the Hard Right and Stephen Miller. If they get the leverage they want from the courts, i think they will try to force a Ultra Conservative bill that most likely wont pass. We may only see a temporary extension of daca for all of their demands.

I think our best bet, may be the new bill that ryan is trying to write up, but the scope is always increasing from Boarder Security for Daca, to Daca for Complete Immigration reform. That is the issue killing ever bill.

Tuesday is over without a deal or the petition being signed.. It looks like the Moderates lost momentum. They waited to long......... Back to the drawing board.

You spoke too soon. Let’s wait until the votes next week.

Yeah... both bills are short on votes, so there is a good chance that neither deal makes it out of the house but miracles can happen. They have a week to whip the bill.

The white house supports both bills, so if it makes it out of the house, there is a decent chance the senate may take it up. Not sure how it will do in the senate.

TBH i dont care anymore how bad it is as long as something can be done to help us. Parts of the bill can be repealed in later legislation and by another administration. We have seen that happen already. So pass something and fix it later.
