Update: Our I-130 was approved on the spot!

We walked into the field office and the first thing I noticed was a picture of Trump hung up in the waiting area lol. We got a pretty intimidating officer. The first question he asked me was "Do you have kids together?" I said no, but we have 7 cats and a dog (actual fact). He laughed and that broke the ice. He quickly skimmed through all of our joint documentation and asked us very basic questions like "when and how did you meet?" "Whats your father in law's name?" He also pointed at pictures and asked us to name the people in the photos. He briefly touched on my immigration history. I nervously told him my timeline. He nodded and almost empathetically said "I understand". He stamped our I-130 packet with an approval and said "There's your first step of many. Counsel, for the record the couple now has an approved i-130". We all had a sigh of relief.

Some advice I would give is to make sure you have your relationship well documented (photos, joint documents, joint financial documents, etc). Organize the documents well and bring them in a folder that the officer can easily swift through and take what they want. I'm really glad I brought our lawyer with us. She gave us the confidence to get through and made small talk with the officer that lifted the officers mood.

It also doesn't hurt to put a smile on. I was very nervous but the officer was understanding.

P.S - at one point the officer said that they are no longer approving DACA renewals and that i'm on my "last leg". At that point he had already approved us and I didn't want to question him further. I'm pretty sure he is just a bit mis-informed, unless he knows something we dont..
