Until the urgency comes back, both parties will want to play political chess with the issue. There is no need for Democrats to make so many concessions on a fix when the most of us can still renew. There is no need for the Republicans to agree to a narrow Wall-DACA deal at the moment since they most likely believe (1) congressional status quo will remain and (2) a SCOTUS ruling against DACA will eventually corner Democrats into making all the demanded concessions.
