First of all Don’t ever go around calling people’s parents ignorant. Especially if they are people you’ve never met, just don’t. You don’t have an argument and you can’t defend that statement unless you’ve met the people and are able to analyze their actions and thought processes .

Yes they are more depressed than I am. In fact I think most/ all of our parents are more depressed than we are. It was their actions that caused us this misery. Something I highlighted to my parents in my teen years furthering their guilt. But the fact is our parents came here because they thought their lives there were shitty and they wanted us to have a chance to live. Yes we are in a limbo, but the chances are our lives here are better than what would have been if we were in our home countries.. My parents/ like most immigrant parents have chosen to deal with their misery and depression by ignoring it and simply pushing it under the rug because that was/ is their coping method. Does this mentally caused undue stress to the children , yes it does. Not denying it. But there are fights and debates worth having and I personally choose not to have this debate with my parents because I see they are tired and worn out and basically lying to themselves in order to go through the day, convincing themselves that the struggles of today will cause the prosperity of tomorrow. Have I tried to have this dialogue with them , yes I have. Have they complete changed opionions? No, but their opinions have mellowed, and they’ve become more tolerable, which is all I can really ask of them.

I understand what you are saying, but I don’t appreciate the direct labeling of my parents as ignorant. You need to be very careful with insulting people’s loved ones. I personally believe my response to you has been civil and respectful, others on here would have cussed you out.

Being ignorant is not an insult. It is merely not knowing any better. The fact that they don't know any better in mental health issues is no reason to type an essay. It is not an attack.

My parents are ignorant in other regards for example, they refuse to believe in evolution. That is ignorance.

You don’t call people you don’t know ignorant, especially if they are not causing you or anyone misery. Period.

You should be glad all I did was write what you label as an “essay” , and did not do as others who have cussed you out, belittled you, and ripped you apart for saying far less than what you have said about my parents

Maybe don't post on a public forum if you are not receptive to ALL perspectives and yes, that may include your parent's being called ignorant.

Anybody not ok?
Tell me about it.

I go for a few months all happy then boom it hits me.

I get worried.
