Is still safe to travel domestic flights with just a passport?

from chicago to seattle and back. I have daca, so no problem with me( I have flown many times before with just my ID).

but my mom just haves her mx passport.

should we be worry? or just avoid and travel by car.

There are people here that traveled with their foreign passports with no issue. Airport security only verifies if the name matches the one on the ticket.

The only thing is to be careful traveling from airports that are 100 miles or less from the border. It is recommended to avoid them as they have a presence of immigration officials and there are a few stories of a**hole tsa officials asking immigration status and calling ICE at the airport.

The 100 mile border thing is confusing. Technically, 2 out of 3 people live within a 100 miles of the border, including water borders. Pretty much covers Seattle, LA, Houston, NY, Boston, etc. Are there any recorded cases of border patrol detaining people within the water borders as well? I know near the mexico or Canadian border, especially within 25 miles is a completely different thing, but I'm curious about the rest.

I know some undoc people who go to Florida by plane at least 2 times per year. Never had issues.
My ex is undoc and went to Boston recently, not an issue.

You only need state REAL ID license to travel.

Yeah. The 100 mile thing is more of an exception not the rule. I’m sure traveling from Seattle is much much safer than say traveling from San Diego or El Paso. I’m also sure that there are dreamers and their undoc relatives that travel (perhaps even often) from these cities using just a foreign passport.

But there are anecdotes and stories coming from airports that lie within the 100 mile southern (land) border even if they are also few and rare. As someone with DACA I honestly would avoid traveling to such cities (Brownsville, El Paso, or San Diego) whereas I wouldn’t have an issue traveling to Seattle or Miami or Detroit. Which lie 100 miles from the northern land border or southern sea border

Well I myself have traveled to two of those major cities without any issue so that's why I'm kind of surprised when I look at the map and see they're included. I remember asking my lawyer about it 8 years ago and he said to avoid places within 100 miles of the border, like El Paso.

He even said to avoid having my plane even stop at those airports which alarmed me because in 2004 I had a flight that stopped there for 30 minutes while they got new passengers (freaking southwest). I guess ignorance was bliss. About the only thing I remember of El Paso was how freezing cold it was when the back door of the plane was open and they were resupplying the plane, but I digress. I dodged a bullet.

San diego is easy, i traveled there many times a year while i had DACA, even with a NY ID that showed visitor status expired, for the last 5 years and TSA was always a breeze
