I've been lifting weights as part of my exercise routine for about 20 years now but I would never in a million years be mistaken for a body builder nor do I want to gain mass. When I was a skinny teenager, of course the goal was the same as every other skinny kid who wanted to be huge but in my mid-20's when I actually started gaining weight, my whole philosophy changed towards wanting to be healthy.

Anyway, best advice I can give for lifetime fitness and not to be a fat fuck when your metabolism slows is to stay away from gimmicks and just do the slow and steady. Pick a gym that you will force yourself to go to even if you're not feeling it so distance matters a lot. Mix things up so you don't get bored - maybe play basketball one day for your cardio, maybe do the row machine instead of running.

Eat right, do cardio, and don't skip leg day.

Thank you for your thoughts. I will try that

It would be very helpful to get a schedule going as well...a trainer can do that for you or you can study it on your own. I took a class in college that in retrospect was very helpful.
