Has anyone opened a Citi Bank account online? Do we put resident or non-resident alien?

We are all resident aliens for tax purposes.

If you put resident, they'll probably ask for your permanent resident card number. I would put non-resident. The only time you would put resident is when doing your taxes.

The financial institutions are asking for your status for tax purposes. You have to put down “Resident Alien” always. If they want to know about your immigration status they will specifically say PERMANENT RESIDENT. And when you do your taxes there is nowhere to pick “resident alien or non resident alien.” In short whenever you see the words “Resident Alien” that is 100% us.
