F Facebook. Zuckerberg is allowing fake campaign ads to be ran by the GOP and is again any Democrat winning the presidency because they would regulate facebook, he's all in for Trump.

^Explain why FB should be required to vet or validate ads that customers pay for them to post/circulatenon their site? It's like expecting newspapers to validate the prices on fruits and vegetables that grocery stores post in newspaper ads. That's not their job.

Instead of pinning it in FB, why not pin it on the hordes of dumbasses that believe anything they see and hear instead of doing some old fashioned research?

We're not talking about fruits and vegetables, we're talking about Facebook allowing Russians to purchase ads that have to do with the American election, about Facebook not deleting proven fake political ads or ads that incite violence. Facebook is allowing a disinformation campaign that the GOP, foreign countries are running and it is affecting our election, see 2016.

^I can see the concern.
Is it bad I feel like I'm on the side of an open market? If someone wants to pay millions to put out ads via a private company...
I mean... where do you draw the line? Should billboards be censored? TV commercials? Who should decide what gets put out to the public? The government? Should FB be expected to hire and pay people that review ads and "news" and decide what goes out to the public? And if so, why should they have to pay the bill to do that? Also, of they do that... doesn't that go into the other direction of censorship and influence where they (or their hires doing the work) are the ones cherry picking what goes out to the public therefore in some way influencing information and the public?

Still learning about this topic and feel like I can be swayed as I find out more.

The evidence that facebook was complicit in 2016 is clear and out there. Even they admit they screwed up and that's not up for debate.

The fact that today they refuse to take down clearly doctored videos that effect elections is just criminal IMO. They are an evil company.

Anecdotal evidence: For the last 4 years or so, I've noticed that as soon as CNN or other news networks or newspapers post a story on facebook, within a second, all these pro-Trump "Americans" start posting praises about how great Trump is and calling the story "Fake News"

A lot of them are simple "Best President Ever!" type posts by accounts without a real photo- sometimes a generic pro-Trump picture, anti-Hillary picture, or a clearly fake picture. They either don't have any friends or if they do, it's other fake accounts and perhaps a delusional old person who thought they were real and added them as a friend. Some are more intricate and aren't bots per se but the work of a professional troll because they did respond but no human would be only 24/7.

A few of those accounts in particular would just post the number for ICE and encouraged people to call them if they suspected anybody of being here illegally. One was an account by a some black people who loved Trump and had the Rebel flag in their main picture - clearly photoshopped.

I have probably reported 300 of these accounts over the years to facebook as fake. I think maybe in the last 4 years, 6 of them were removed by facebook while facebook continued to brag about all the new users it was having on the platform. Terrible company. Sad.
