Yeah. Otherwise you can really only do a U-visa which requires you to report the incident(s) and assist law enforcement.

its really interesting that you self filed for VAWA and everything went smooth, I consulted a lawyer and she's charging me heavy. Wish Demise you can advise me more on the moves you made applying for VAWA via inbox.

Sure just PM me. Honestly most lawyers charge a cost of a new kidney and I didn't have the money at the time which is why I decided to self-file.

yep! and the VAWA application has no cost, once youre approve for it you can apply for AOS, or you can file both at the same time it just depends if your abuser was a USC or not.

Uvisa the abuser can be anyone regardless of their status, but you have to have reported it to the police and helped in the investigation of the offense (it has to be a serious offense too not just simple assault), the approval for a Uvisa is about 4 years, and all you get is a work permit valid for 4 years. On your 3rd year of having it then you can apply for AOS.

I will just add that while you're waiting on your number to come up in the queue for a U-visa, you will generally get a prima facie notice and be placed into deferred action and you can get a work permit that way. You can also concurrently file I-765 (c)(14) and I-765WS with I-918, meaning that your work permit would be issued together or slightly after the grant of deferred action.

Congrats!

It’s unfortunate that this good outcome had such crappy roots

Honestly after 2 years since then I am feeling a lot better. Besides, I'll get to AOS despite my EWI so yay.
