For now, I am just lucky my wife is petitioning so either way I am safe. I hope daca-ers will get their fair share via this immigration bill soon as well. But right now, I am under DACA, hoping will get my green card by summer time via my wife, or from Biden, whichever comes first.
Hey brother, I am on the same page. Me and my wife is going to file my AOS soon.
Let's say that this bill passes. Do you think I could just pursue it instead of AOS through marriage?

I saw our lord and saviour Durbin speak on the floor today after the new Senators were sworn in. What did he talk about? You bet, DACA. He promised to get a bill out of the judiciary committee since he is the chairman now. He also talked about a DACA recipient. I truly adore that man.

He starts talking around 57:40

I'll put it this way, the faster they legalize people the faster the economy recovers. Given the pandemic is handled correctly and vaccination is swift.

Do whatever is cheaper, faster and certain.

Best of luck to you!

I must mention if you get it done on your own nobody can shove it in your face.

Yep, was think more along the lines of influencing what other senators take seriously and actually help pass instead of just doing an about face and voting no down the list.

I don't know brother. They could pass it in Feb, who knows. They could end up doing this in the summer :/

If you are in no rush, and you ahve 1-2 years to wait out before paying renewing DACA again, maybe?

But I personally like to be in control. My wife is happy to file AOS for me, so I did. I actually have 3 AOS, one from my father, one from my older sister, and now one from my wife.

I know the family ones won't help me for years to come (father one is about 4+ years away, they just started processing it). If Joe gives me a green card in March, it's okay, $$$ well spent. I didn't expect Biden would win back the WH.

My point is - if you really have nothing to lose, money isn't that big a deal, you know someone who does a good job, and you want to be in control of your own fate - take the chance and do it yourself. Don't wait. You could wait for another few months to see the water, if you are not in rush for renewal though. IDK, up to you. Marriage green card is ~1 year processing time (from start to interview).

* 2 weeks to get receipt

* ~2 months to get I-944 RFE (or one day USCIS and Biden will roll back on this form that Trump added)

* ~probably another 2 months before you will hear anything back

and then if all goes well, you are on your way to schedule for an interview. So in 6 months - hopefully - you get your 2-year green card and then you can file for citizenship.

From what I have been reading, we may have to pay increased fees and a possible fine to pass through the budget reconciliation process and I believe it can only be used once a year. Hopefully, republicans play ball on covid relief so Dems on have to use it on that.

I am 100% ok with both fees and fine for peace of mind.

They can use it once a year but tack on different issues to the same bill
