They did pass an amendment by 58-42. That is not fake news.

BUT, this amendment to the budget resolution is nonbinding. The budget resolution itself is nonbinding. It will not become law. It is just a vehicle/tool that each chamber uses before reconciliation to eventually agree on a concurrent budget resolution that will have to pass both chambers and will be binding.

In other words, yes. Those Republican senators did force the Senate to vote on this amendment and succeeded in attaching it to the non-binding budget resolution because, for budget resolutions, any amendments can get votes. But, it is meaningless. It is just political theater.

So, it is a show. It won't change anything.
