my mom answered a phone call from someone looking for ___________, she told the guy that he must have got the wrong phone number. when she was about to hang up, he said her first and last name and that he was a coyote. the guy told her that he got her phone number from her cousin, she asked which cousin, and he gave her some phony name she never heard before. towards the end of the phone call he asked if she was illegal, she said no and that she hated coyotes - told him to never call her again.

area code of his phone number 664, google says it's from MONTSERRAT, some island north of venezuela and east of puerto rico. i'm not sure if 664 is his actual area code or if he called from a phone card and had his phone call be routed from that island.

so, wtf is going on?

There is no way he could be on Montserrat, that Caribbean island has lost more population that it has gained due to the Volcanic activity that has been on-going.The person could've been using a phone line scrambler to mask their true phone number or the idea that you mentioned concerning the calling card.

You could always just be bold enough to just redial the phone number using *67 to see what is really up.

My mom also got a phone call from a coyote. I think they also told her that her cousin was at the border or something like that and my mom was like "What the hell are you talking about??" and they hung up. That was about a month ago, and nothing happened after that. Weird.

It happened to my mom, too They said one of her cousins asked him to cross her over the border, but that now she couldn't pay. They asked for $2000 to let her go. My mom told him that we weren't expecting anybody and to not call again. I think it's a scam...

i guess just ignore the phone call because it may just be a scam, it happened to a family member i guess they stole his identity and they found out where he was from and his family, so they called his brother here while he was in vacation to mexico and they told him that the guy was arrested in the border and he needed cash to get out to inmediately wire them money to give it to him because he only had checks and credit cards, but in reality the guy was not arrested and it was just a scam to try to steal money from his family, who did it? no one ever found out, private calls, they are still confused about it...

seems like there's a possibility my mom visited a fake web page of a merchant that sells imported food from latin america. or maybe a family member that gave this guy her info.

the coyote did say "i know you're ______ ______, you live in the state of ________, and you're illegal". everything he said matched, except that she's illegal [ i'm the illegal one, ] and her cousin's name. he also never said what he wanted.
