2- This is the 50% increase they are talking about non stop on fox
From 76 to 140 in February.

Agree that it isnt alot. but it IS still a 50% increase.
Wouldnt you say that overall, it creates a lot of negative optics for an actual immigration bill (for the millions who have been living here for years/decades) whatever way to slice it?

Until life in their home country improves, people will always be trying to cross the border (and there was a huge spike in 2019 when Orange Man was President). The amount will ebb and flow like every year. If that's the reason to not do immigration reform then it will never happen. Why should DREAMers or other long term immigrants be punished for something that isn't in their control (influx of new immigrants)?

What you saying is logical, I don't think that's how most people see it. The GOP is painting a picture and creating a story and people buying it.

We are losing the optics game and that is important because as a group we depend on sentiment to push our cause forward.

True, but Democrats need to keep pushing back. The reasons we are a sympathetic group does not change with with what is going on at the border. Both issues do need to be dealt with.

sure, ppl have always wanted to cross over the border for a better life etc. all valid reasons.
but the truth is that bc employment, political climate was so obviously hostile under Trump, those numbers did drop significantly. My understanding is that ppl may view Biden's admin as more forgiving and thus are more motivated to take the chance to cross the border. Which is fine- they all want a better life.

But it certainly does NOT help the plight of the tens of millions who have already been living here in the shadows just waiting for this moment in history (where the political climate seems to lean toward blue - Congress / Sensate majority- even if slim).

Moderates wont be too happy to see these sensational headlines that will undoubtedly be fanned by GOP in the coming months. They will buy it.

Agreed that it doesn't help the current undocumented population here. It might get to a point where Biden has to get tougher at the border because of the COVID situation.

I think they fear hypocrisy.. Mexico says that there are simply too many people for them to handle.

Mexico has stepped up immigration raids -- hauling hundreds of people off trains in recent weeks -- to stem an increase in Central American migrants heading for the United States since President Joe Biden took office, according to advocates and data from immigration authorities.

Exactly if Peru was a border country. Guinea pig meat would be sold at Trader Joe’s

I’m also beyond the point of thinking about others. Sometimes we gotta be selfish and these people are gonna fuck it all up or at least make our chances worse.

I’ve been waiting since i was a little kid for an opportunity to be a citizen of this country and 25 years is a long time. I’m TIRED
