Panama foreign minister Erika Mouynes told Axios there are as many as 60,000 migrants — mostly Haitian — poised to make their way north to the U.S.-Mexico border.

You are not even close....

The last piece of immigration reform was Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 done under Clinton, and that one was unquestionably relevant to our situation as it implemented 287(g).

However, the last piece of legislation at a level of a true reform was the Immigration Act of 1990 under Bush Sr. which was responsible for the introduction of the family-based visa system, the green-card lottery, and employment-based visa categories among other things.

It was actually the passage of the Immigration Act of 1990, and not the IRCA of 1986 (illegal immigration actually decreased in the 1986-89 period) that precipitated the meteoric rise in the number of illegal immigrants. IRCA under Reagan was a direct amnesty, but that was accompanied by the implementation of much stiffer penalties for those employing undocumented workers, while IA of 1990 was the epitome of an open-border legislation that could easily be exploited. I don't think there is one progressive in Congress today that would be on board with all of its stipulations.

When I said relevant to us I was referring to the amnesty part since that is what we are looking for.

What is Parole? ... While individuals who receive a grant of parole are granted entry into the United States, they are not provided an immigration status nor are they formally “admitted” into the United States for purposes of immigration law

Parole allows an individual, who may be inadmissible or otherwise ineligible for admission into the United States, to be paroled into the United States for a temporary period. ... An individual who is paroled into the U.S. has not been formally admitted into the United States for purposes of immigration law.

So, how does this help us?

Like to see more strong arming like this. This needs to be done in VA as well. Then fire Parliamentarian and ram this bill down Rs throats. Game over.

Good move.

I agree. Pressure is being applied in VA though.

As for the Senate Parliamentarian, Chuck Schumer is the other son of a bitch in this story. Pressure needs to be applied on him. Durbin unfortunately just goes along with whatever Schumer says. As I have said it many times before, he can just fire her. Problem solved. I love Durbin for having a great heart, but he is a follower. He needs to stop being such a bonafide pussy and stand up to Chuck.

If he fires her, the ruling doesn't change and there's no guarantee the next in line will rule differently. I don't even know if he can rule again on the same matter. Probably not.
