To hear Sen. Joe Manchin, pro-immigrant advocates are getting way too excited over the prospect of a deal in the lame duck Congress that would allow for the legalization of two million “Dreamers,” immigrants brought illegally into the country as minors by their parents. “I don’t see any movement there,” he told a forum on the benefits of immigration hosted by the Hamilton Project at the Brookings Institution. “They think it’s weak on border security.”

Here's the rundown on border & immigration enforcement $$ in the omnibus:

-$16.5B for CBP, incl $1.6 billion for increased migrant encounters
-300 additional Border Patrol agents
-$8.4B for ICE, detention capacity flat at 34K beds

Also $800M for new CBP Shelter and Services grant program (replacing Emergency Food & Shelter humanitarian account) for nonprofits & local govts helping with migrant needs

What's NOT in the bill:
-Afghan Adjustment Act
-relief for Dreamers, documented Dreamers, farmworkers

i hope divided government in the next 2 years comes up with something.

McCarthy dont even have the 218 votes to be speaker. so when he said no amnesty happening under him is bs. The GOP literally only has +5 majority in the House.

it remains to be seen!

With McCarthy as Speaker, not a chance in hell.

What killed any immigration chances was Mitch McConnell playing ball with the Dems. He gave them a good deal so the package could pass this year.

I don't see the GOP house making any form of immigration deal or bringing a bill that passes the senate to a vote.

If they are willing to do something, it would be a daca extension or some codification of daca that applies only to the current daca enrollees.

Based on their previous actions and responses any citizenship is DOA and any number greater than 1M is DOA.

Start prepping plan B if you have not already.

For me, its mostly likely Canada in the next 2-3 years, when the stock market recovers some more.

Republicans are getting title 42 extended without any mention of DACA. Man...Republicans always get wah they want. Wish they would support daca instead of democrats.
