Hello Guys,

It’s been years since I’ve been on this forum, hope everyone is well.
I know there are disrespectful trolls on here and honestly I don’t have time for nonsense, this is a serious situation and if you can’t relate or don’t have input just scroll and keep it moving. Thanks

I have had Daca since 2013 and waited patiently for the Laws to change.
It’s been 10 yrs and not much has changed with Daca. I told myself that I would wait to find love to marry and I did.

My BF and I have been dating for a year and he asked me to marry him, I never told him much about my status until he recently asked due to his job.

He is a federal employee/ military police and will be transitioning to a higher position at his job.
Unfortunately, with his job-he is required to have a security clearance- which means that he has access to top secret information and has to report any encounter or contact with a foreign national… which is me.

Since we plan on getting married, he reported that to his supervisor and he was told that since he is a citizen and I am not, when we do get married- he’s info would be flagged in the system/ and his security clearance would be under scrutiny.

I am in the process of calling around and finding an immigration lawyer to help us but I was told by a lawyer that the state of CA is not accepting applications for green cards from Daca receipients?? I am waiting to get a call back from another lawyer to see how accurate this is so I figured I would hop on here and see if anyone has been in a similar situation?

A lawyer told you that the state of California is not accepting greencard applications from Dreamers?!

What is his name and his law firm?!

He should be disbarred for giving such grievously wrong info. Seriously , if this dude is walking around advising clients with these sorts of statements ... this dude needs to find something else to do... i don't know... maybe become a plumber or whatever... he's not cut out to be a lawyer.

My advice: Get another lawyer. Get a good one. This guy is trash.

That's definitely not true because you apply for a green card through USCIS not through the state of California.

That’s what I thought, but when I spoke to him on the phone- I specifically asked if he was familiar with the DACA program- I even spelled it out for him and he said yes and he has been an immigration lawyer for years so I was very confused.

Consult another lawyer. That info he gave you is 100 percent false. Just because someone is a lawyer doesn’t mean they know everything. Just like with doctors, you get different consultations and some know more than others what they are talking about and what they are doing. Our lawyer who actually is a family friend was clueless and didn’t know anything about DACA and whether my brother or I could apply for it a year after it first came out. I did the research and found out we could apply and I filled out the applications and everything for both my brother and I. She had no info. So don’t get confused and consult other lawyers.
