It does. The thing you're referring to was a stupid Trump-era regulation taking some really weird reading of this for TPS and Family Unity AP travel:

"(1) In the case of an alien described in paragraph (2) whom the Attorney General authorizes to travel abroad temporarily and who returns to the United States in accordance with such authorization-

"(A) the alien shall be inspected and admitted in the same immigration status the alien had at the time of departure if-

This was never applicable to any other AP travel and it was BS even for those guys because "admitted or paroled" requirement in 245(a) was always relating solely to procedural regularity. Anyways, it was reversed back in 2022.

theres no easy or hard way. you just provide legit proof of whatever reason you are allowed to apply and you are good to go.
