No one should have to wait for decades for a card once their petition is approved AND paid for!!
Congratulations to all who received their green cards!

Worst thing in my case was that I was in removal proceedings. My VAWA I-360 was actually approved in November 2020. My proceedings were admin closed in 2018, shortly thereafter AG Sessions took away IJs' ability to admin close and later terminate removal proceedings.

I didn't particularly want to deal with courts until like mid 2022 when I did a motion to recalendar and change venue (since I moved to Minnesota, part of it was covid other part was being unemployed). Before this I did actually try to reach out to ICE in NY under the Doyle Memo, first as a pro-se, later I also tried the instructions for lawyers, neither got a response.

The change of venue got stuck in the air due to a FOIA I filed with EOIR (did you know that can happen? I didn't.). After Matter of Coronado-Acevedo (Nov 2022) I filed a motion to terminate with the court in Minnesota, figured I'd just preempt any action by the local court, had the ICE attorney call me, we talked, and agreed to a joint motion to dismiss, later I checked with him and turns out that the pending FOIA got the Change of Venue stuck in air. I withdrew the FOIA and reached out to my senator to have them inquire on my behalf to get the CoV to actually happen.

Then it finally moved to the court in Minnesota and I was able to dismiss and file I-485 with USCIS. One good thing about VAWA - you can AOS after an EWI.

Like it was just really poor timing, if a ruling like Coronado-Acevedo happened earlier I'd just do a straight up Motion to Terminate with the court in NY.

Like it is incredible how much your parents can screw you over. If I was an overstayer I could've easily just adjusted via marriage by the time everything went to hell. If I was a straight up EWI, I totally would have done AP to clear the EWI and AOS via marriage. Worst I'd need then is a divorce or a VAWA waiver. Or I could've filed I-360/I-485 concurrently and around this time I'd be filing for citizenship. Landing in removal proceedings made everything much more difficult.

Oh well, I was dealt a shit hand and somehow managed to win with it. I plan to naturalize as soon as I possibly can. Just in time for 2028 elections, lol. Another thing about VAWA, 3 years to naturalize this includes AOS on I-360, VAWA I-751, and VAWA Cancellation of Removal.

Also, despite marking to issue me a new social security card on the I-485 that somehow never happened. I stopped by the local social security office with my shiny new green card and the card without the restriction arrived a week later.

Somehow missed your post. Also I only looked at this thread due to the recent post here cause you know, forum is dead: everyone who can do something about their status have done so and those who can't (or are waiting on priority dates for something like an F2B) are just riding DACA out and Biden's president and fingers crossed Harris wins next and this place won't devolve into full blown panic.

Anyways. My ex's and I's divorce was finalized in April this year, like 2 weeks before my interview.

Anyways, I was an EWI with a final order, so I couldn't just file for AOS.

We married in Nov 2016, filed I-130 literally the same day, that was approved after an interview and RFE in Nov 2017, proceedings were reopened and admin closed in January 2018 (lucked out because IJs lost that power literally a few weeks later), we were about to file I-601A and that's around the time when everything went to hell.

I filed I-360 in August 2018. That was approved in November 2020. Now, Sessions while AG made getting a termination next to impossible. I moved to Minnesota during covid, took like a year to find a job. Then I finally filed a motion to recalendar and change venue in mid 2022 because I was tired of waiting and figured that I'll just take my chances at the court, that was approved, then Matter of Coronado-Acevedo happened, filed motion to terminate with the court in MN. The ICE attorney actually called me, we talked and agreed to instead do an unopposed motion to dismiss, so I did that, then nothing happened, I emailed him to see what's going on, turns out that a FOIA I filed just stalled everything, so I withdrew that, asked my senator to nudge the NY court on my behalf, the COV finally happened, refiled the motion to dismiss, proceedings were finally dismissed in June 2023, filed I-485 with USCIS, got my biometrics in December, RFE for medicals in February, interview in April, and was finally approved on May 10th.

So overall, a complete clusterfuck of a situation. EWI, final order, marriage, I-130, proceedings reopened/admin closed, marriage went to hell, I-360, cov/recalendar, proceedings dismissed, I-485, green card. I mean hell, I earned it.
