My LPR mother petitioned me in 2020. She's now a US citizen and changed the category. Just checked processing times and it's now saying 2029. This is absolutely insane.

As an FYI, you can request to stay in F2B (son/daughter of permanent resident) if that moves faster than the other category.

I feel you though! I am waiting on F2B Dec 2016 priority date. The backlog is terrible, but at least it moved by several months this year.

Hello, what is the process to change from F2B to F1? Im in the all areas category and just need movement of 7 months to get to Apr 2018 if i switch to F1. As someone mentioned, the F2B can move faster than F1 sometimes, so i've held back since nothing has really moved in the last 1-2 years.

Do you just send a signed letter stating you want to change F2B to F1 + copy of citizenship + copy of I-130 approval letter to the nvc address?

Yep. You do the same thing to stay in F2B, just you know, different letter..

Do you have an employer that could sponsor your EB-2 or EB-3 visa? You can do a waiver through your mom and pay for expedited processing of your I-140.

I will be doing this when my parents become LPR in a couple of years.

Thanks! We didnt send them a letter to convert to F1, so we should still be F2B. They have not sent a letter either saying you were automatically upgraded to F1. So i think we're good. I'm just waiting on F1 to move again as its much closer than f2B.

Technically you get moved from F2B to F1 by operation of law and under CSPA you have the right to decline an upgrade. The thing is that NVC won't check on their own, so you need to tell them that either:
1. Parent naturalized, move me to F1.
2. Parent naturalized, keep me in F2B.

It's anyone's guess which will be faster. Final action date of F2B is 6 or so months ahead (for ROW), and at the same time the Filing action date of F1 is around 6 months ahead. The good thing about when your Filing Action Date is current then you'll be able to start the I485 application and continue to renew EAD until approval (so it is protection if DACA were to end).
