I did an in-person biometrics appointment last month (Dec, 2024) for my DACA renewal.

And this is considering I had done in-person biometrics for my AOS case about 12 months prior to that as well (Dec, 2023) in the exactsame USCIS office (photo and fingerprins). Grrrr... USCIS is so inefficient. Waste of time and resources.

These are times where we have to be careful who we drive with, unfortunately situations like this can end up bad.
can you share the location this happened, was it close to border, or random CBP/ICE stop? I mean if close to Border may make sense, but just wondering if they are now doing this at random, such as when you go from say CA to Nevada, a lot of folks from Northern Cal go to Lake Tahoe (Nevada) and there is a check point when you cross the state lines. Typically, that is just a waive by or they may stop you and ask if you are bringing over any/ and or transporting any restricted items like agricultural products.

FWIW, if you google, there's a checkpoint with permanent CBP checkpoints. Most of them in the south, within 100 miles of the border. But they set up temporary ones as well.

I guess that even though I 've never seen anything on the east coast, if they wanted to, they could set checkpoints in NY or PA or whatever.

Yeah that's a federal law basically letting CBP do that within "reasonable distance" of "external boundaries". (8 U.S.C. § 1357(a)(3))

Now, the 100 miles and mostly on the southern border is just a matter of their policy. They could both increase it or decrease it. Statutory minimum is 25 miles where the ability to access private lands kicks in as well.

They can set up shop at coastlines. They could likely set up shop anywhere if they tried to argue that an international airport is an external boundary or that reasonable distance is much higher. Now, obviously people aren't stowing away much in cargo holds and shipping containers these days but they might argue that anyways.

If ICE wanted to come after DACA holders they could just come directly to our homes. So I wouldn’t be worrying about them being at USCIS come biometric time

Florida as whole is a constitution free zone per the patriot act and that federal law you mentioned. Just wanted to point this out. which is why Ron DeSanctimonius is hell bent into enforcing immigration law in FL
