Obvious trap is obvious.

Register so we have a list of who we need to deport and do 90% of the work of identifying yourself and your location in exchange for....

Registration is not an immigration status, and registration documentation does not establish employment authorization or any other right or benefit under the INA or any other U.S. law.

AKA nothing.

OR ELSE we will fine you and potentially imprison you....if we can find you and if we are aware of your existence, and if we have court resources to burn. Apparently they also want your fingerprints and such? But if you go in to register, then why wouldn't they just grab you to deport you? If their goal is mass deportation, fines and imprisonment don't move the needle.

"Once an alien has registered and appeared for fingerprinting (unless waived), DHS will issue evidence of registration, which aliens over the age of 18 must carry and keep in their possession at all times."

I guess its setting up some sort of catch-22. Who knows, maybe I am too negative and they are just collecting the information on everyone so they can later register for permanent residence because they have proof of your existence before X time. Guys they are just doing this to identify the criminals and remove them!

We are already registered via the EADs, but we are also protected from deportation for the time being. But I legit never have carried any registration, because my Drivers License carries the same information, and it has the Gold Star, and is easily replaceable.

I guess they might try to use this as the stick to encourage mass self deportations. This wont scare people that are already breaking immigration law, its one of those things where you might as well go whole instead of halfises.

"because as long as I was in, and in for good, I might as well go the whole hog."

WASHINGTON — Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem late Tuesday announced a campaign to compel people in the United States without legal authority to register with the U.S. government and then self-deport.

In doing so, Trump administration officials could carry out their plans for mass deportations without using agency resources for physical removals.

Noem said in a press release that if a person without legal status fails to register online, that person will be subject to a fine, imprisonment or both.

It’s unclear how much the fine is, or what charges would be levied that would result in imprisonment. In response to State Newsroom’s request for comment, DHS said it was looking into those details.

“If you leave now, you may have the opportunity to return and enjoy our freedom and live the American dream,” a DHS spokesperson said in a statement.

In order to return to the U.S. after a voluntary departure, an approved visa petition is needed, like a work visa, as well as a waiver of inadmissibility from a U.S. embassy or consulate.

The registry is not up and running, but a form and process will be made available in the coming days, according to the DHS website.

Registering would require submitting fingerprint information and other personal information. Adults and children 14 and older would be required to register.

“Compelling mass self-deportation is a safer path for aliens and law enforcement, and saves U.S. taxpayer dollars, in addition to conserving valuable Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) resources needed to keep Americans safe,” according to the DHS press release.

Tuesday’s late announcement comes as Noem has appeared in commercials where she has warned immigrants without legal authorization “will be hunted down and deported.”

Those who are required to register include immigrants in the U.S. without legal authorization, “Canadian visitors who entered the United States at land ports of entry and were not issued evidence of registration” and those enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program, or those with Temporary Protected Status, according to the DHS website.

Hmmm interesting. I guess I will go register?

https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/02/17/...t-and-stay-out

“Thank you, President Donald J. Trump, for securing our border and putting America first. President Trump has a clear message: if you are here illegally, we will find you and deport you. You will never return. But if you leave now, you may have an opportunity to return and enjoy our freedom and live the American Dream,” said Secretary Kristi Noem. “If you are a criminal alien considering entering America illegally: Don’t even think about it. If you come here and break our laws, we will hunt you down. Criminals are not welcome in the United States.”

*** I think its wild that they are trying this harsh messaging because its almost an admission that they can't. Strange that they'd do this even with all that funding they are getting from the budgets. It might be to make that budgetary money stretch a little further. Lots of chest puffing otherwise. It also is an unintentional reference to Kamala telling people not to come to the states. Same energy. I guess their only real shot at pulling this off is if they can convince enough people to self deport.

I think that the system as it is, won't be very effective because barely anyone except for few are going to go register. If there were a compelling reason for registration, for example a work permit and reprieve from deportation then people would go register. You attract more compliance with a win-win. Attract bees with honey. and then they would have an accurate list and not only that have a way to prioritize the actual criminals. Though people have done their best, bless their hearts, at muddling the definition of criminal. Otherwise its just poorly thought out.

Its also entirely within the purview of the president to say, don't come after those who have registered.

They want tattoos, that'll look so nice on international TV. Just like back in WW2 especially with Elons' "from the heart" salute. I think its clear that Nazis have taken root again. Too many suspicious salutes are happening too often. They don't even deny it, meaning that its true.

This is the type of flag Musk and his ilk probably like.

The policy as is is looking for idiots though to be clear it's a different story if you have DACA. If they removed the 3/10 year bars and I could genuinely believe that I could come back and forth, I would go register.

But also remember. Musk made an offer towards federal employees to resign and get some exit package and there are reports they didn't honor their promises.

According to Attorney Martinez who is an immigration lawyer said that thus is specific to pending DACA/TPS applications who aren’t already “registered” per the announcement.

Mid-terms are going to ravage the republican party. All these two months of constant fuckups.

Where is the lower cost of living? People voted for trump over the economy.

Yeah this is my prediction: we won't get regularized, but there also won't be much of an economy left with these weak budget cuts and the trivial yet destructive layoffs. Yes the layoffs have continued in both the private and public sector. Even the stock market signals economic malaise. Deagel says it all, there will be a mass exodus.

They cook the inflation numbers, but it's closer to 50% in some areas.

Just skip on Starbucks one time!

MAGA has huge surprise for Dems for midterms
